Our first rains of the season arrived last night and it was torrential and very windy. Faro airport (40 minutes east of us) took the brunt of it ...

Fortunately only five were injured but all incoming and outgoing planes were cancelled and it was havoc at the airport.

Today was sunny, breezy and 22c but more rain is on it's way.

Luckily we had no damage ... just zillions of last year's Jacaranda pods strewn all over hell's half acre but the rest of my plants withstood the storm.

Latest is the airport is closed through tomorrow and possibly open on Wednesday. It's such a nice airport we hope structually it survived the hit and hopefully those injured are not too serious, although one report says one is.

So, those of you who planned on coming over for a quick visit ... delay your plans ...

As I type all is very calm and still 21c.

It's great living on this island until you want to get off it in bad weather. No chance! No ferry, no seacats right through the winter months, planes grounded and a drop in food supplies when shipping doesn't move.

It does have it's good points though. :)
