went to the local tip/reycle centre earlier today to dispose of some garden waste

I always have a browse around in the section that has the bicycles/garden tools

saw 3 lawn mowers .... 2 were knackered and one was a laser Mountfield Omega 46 with a Honda GV100 engine and the original grass catcher box

looked in good condition .... the pull chord goes not go all the way in though

asked the guy working there what the price was .... he said £10 ... thought I'd buy it, and have the engine serviced etc

bought it, brought it home, checked the oil/petrol (tank is still full of petrol)

pulled the starter cable, started 1st time and not even a puff of smoke .... bargain! .... will drain the oil/petrol, add a new spark plug and air filter in spring, and keep it as a spare

have an old hayter aswell that was bought a while back (for a tenner from the same recycle centre)

am hoping to employ some help next year for lawn cutting so these will come in handy ... will check on a regular basis for more of these

best time to get these bargains is in spring .... people get fed up trying to start the petrol mowers, and fed up with having to fill the can with petrol, so they dispose of the petrol mowers and buy electric

I have more work that I can cope with as a 1 man operation and am at the stage where I am turning work down (have not even advertised yet, and all work is word of mouth)

am thinking of hiring some people through Jobcentre in spring to assist with lawncutting etc and i will concentrate on the landscaping side that I enjoy the most

loads of people are desperate for work, and I think if I hire them through jobcentre, and pay a decent hourly rate (£8-£10/hr) , they may end up enjoying the work and end up staying? ... they will be self employed so I don't have to hassle with their taxes, their national insurance etc ... and wont have to pay them if they don't work (they will get paid per hour per job)

have spoken to people at jobcentre and they have given the thumbs up

it might work ... I won't get rich from their work, as most of the money will go to them, but at least I will help, and I will not have to turn any work down ....

so am scouting for a few more decent mowers before spring ... need a few Stihl hedge trimmers but there are no real bargains unless bought off ebay, and even then, they are not cheap

Is that right? £10 / hour self employed.

yup .... will charge the client £12 to £15/hr ... the guy who works for me will get paid accordingly (will be more than min wage and most will go to the person working)

it's complex, but in simple terms:

he will still be on jobseekers allowance .... and will work however many hours per week he is prepared to work, and however many hours I can supply work to him ....

he will be paid cash weekly or daily, and this amount will be declared to jobcentre (there is a form they have to fill in, to declare part time work and this is handed in to jobcentre on the days they sign their book)

this gets deducted from his jobseekers allowance which is paid out every 2 weeks .... so, he declares that he is self employed, doing part time work, and declares all income received

problem stems from the fact, that some people may say that they would rather sit at home, and not work, as at the end of the day, they will still earn the same money

but lets look at facts ..... if he sits at home, watching tv, he claims £80 per week .... if I can supply him with 30hrs work per week, he earns £300+ per week .... he still will get housing subsidy etc, as he is on a low salary ....

and I don't have to hassle with paying a salary if there is no work, and I don't have to worry about deducting his taxes and NI etc

... so those are the people that I am hoping will work for me (and they will end up working for themselves)

if they are smart, they will end up opening their own landscaping businesses in the future and I will help where I can ..... there is loads of work for all in my area

helps people .... and I won't have to turn business away

              What is Amazing

What is Amazing is the fact you have a tip that will let you take anything at all even if you pay for it

Our tip, once you have passed through the gates, it is THEIRS, Even if you meet someone tipping something you could use, or they could use
              NOT ALLOWED
              Computers reason/ Data proteciton act
Cycles and prams/ Passed on to a mentally disabled workshop where they make one good cycle out of many used ones and sell on

No reason for anything else other than it now belongs to the council
I took Three old Scythes, to the tip and this gardener asked for them, knowing the rules, I put them back in the boot/estate car to give them to him outside
THEY WOULD not let me leave, It was easier just to let the guy loose out and tip them than call the Police After all they were mine and I had changed my mind about throwing them out

I have carried out checks, and nope they are not selling on stuff themselves, All is destroyed Bloody Jobsworths

our tip is good ... when offloading stuff, if you think it is worth any money, you place it in front of the office

if it's a bicycle, a lawnmower, a tv, or a lounge suite in good condition, you place it in the relevant designated space .... if you think it's junk, you place it in the large skips

if you spot anything that you want to buy, you speak to the govenor and negotiate a price .... mowers for £10, garden tools for a pound each ... good bicycles for £15 etc, mirrors garden benches, etc etc

the guys who run the recycle centre have 2 large shipping containers ... anything that they feel is of great value gets puts inside and when full, they take it to the local auction house (things like chests of drawers, antique wardrobes etc)

they run 3 other recycles centres nearby and it works the same way

I have even seen people selling them scrap metal such as copper boilers etc

Sorry, but I seem to be missing something here.

But people on job seekers allowance can only work for 16 hours a week, any more than that they have to "sign off" as they are now "employed" but then to pay some one who is self employed £10 / hour is not worth their while as they have to pay Tax and NI from that.

depends on how many hours they work for .... if they work 30hrs a week, they will earn £300 a week .... 40 hrrs will give them £400/week ....

now deduct the NI and tax from that and compare it to £80/week .... it's a lot more

or, if they want, jobcentre will force them to work in places like Mc Donalds for a fiver and a bit an hour

jobcentre have now clamped down and are forcing people to work in all sectors .... times have changed and they have clamped down on those who refuse to work ... they are now 'forcing' them to work

so, those who are prepared to work for the rates I can offer, will be most welcome

if no-one is keen ... I loose nothing .... if there are people keen, I gain little, but give them the opportunity to work

thats the best I can do and offer
