      Just thought people might be interested to know that I think my Dwarf Cavendish Banana which is in my Jungle Kitchen looks like it's in the initial stages of flowering............that's a first if it is!! I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them to see if anyone can confirm if I'm right.:D

        Am I right in thinking its Monocarpic? If so is it curtains? or will it have "puppies" after flowering?

        Hi Kristen, that worrying thought had lurked in the back of my mind, but Dwarf Cavendish is not monocarpic. In fact, it was introduced for commercial plantation use because it's shortness made it stable and wind resistant. But, even if it had been Monocarpic, it has produced 5 or 6 off shoots which I have potted up as a back up!! As I said I'll take some pics tomorrow to see if people can confirm it is flowering.:thumbsup::D

                Well, I'm not an expert, Pete, on Bananas!!:scratch::heehee::D All I know is that the Plant Nursery I got it from over 4 years ago, now sadly defunct, described it as a Dwarf Cavendish..........having said that , there was no identifying or descriptive label on the pot. If we can re-identify it that's great.!!:thumbsup:

                I dont consider myself an expert either,but for a musa, I'd expect to see a stem start to form and grow hanging to one side, with the bracts opening up and falling off to reveal the immature bananas with the flowers on the end.

                Musella is quite a common plant, it suckers freely and looks very similar in growth to a Musa, being a relative.

                Its also quite a bit hardier than Cavendish.

                Mmmmmm, I'm having a problem trying to confirm which it is, Pete, as I see the flower of the Dwarf Cavendish is also bright yellow!!!:scratch:, I'll do some more research to see if we can positively identify it. Perhaps we might get some indications as the flower progress:D
