    my family kept telling me that my old dinning table was looking shabby and i should think about getting a new one:cry3: have just spent two whole days lovingly sanding down a 20 year old solid farmhouse dinning table, that has been used and most definaitly abused over the last two decades by numerous children, hobbies and homeworks

    it looks stunning:yess::yess::hapfeet::hapfeet::yess::yess:

    i have just put on second coat of varnish and i cant stop smilling
    especially as daughter just called in and said i like you new table it looks much better than that tatty old thing you had !!!!! :heehee::heehee::heehee::heehee::heehee:

      Nice one Kaz.

      I saw the Antiques dealer at the end of my road unloading a brand new pine kitchen table.

      I said "Thats doesn't look very antique Carl"

      He replied, "It will do Zig, it will do:WINK1:"

            lots of tricks in the antique field

            at one stage, victorian cast iron railway signs were fetching good prices at auction... aswell as antique/old enamel shop/advertising signs

            some guys were buying brand new reproductions, and placing them in wet garden soil to make them 'rusty' so as to fetch high prices .... the same is done with bronze statues/figurines

            lots of forgeries in the art world (paintings etc) .... some guys are really good and can paint an exact replica just from a photo .... they even go so far as to have it framed in an antique frame, and stain the back with tea to make it look old

            lots of fake porcelain coming from china at the moment .... they actualy reproduce it so that it is better quality than the original

              Got caught out once though, had to admit that I couldn't pick the kids up as I was in the middle of the English Channel.

                Kaz, So nice to re-do furniture instead of sending it out for mother nature to deal with it. And a sense of accomplishment.
                And since you saved the family so much money not buying a new one, you can treat yourself to something.
