I've had a Hot Point Fridge/Freezer for the last 5 - 6 years without any real complaint. But about 3 months ago I'd open the Fridge door and the interior light wouldn't come on and it didn't feel all that cold inside. First thing was to check the fuse of the plug and just to be safe I changed it. Plugging it back in it worked perfectly. Then the following day the same situation. So I checked the fuse, plugged it back in, and it worked again. Then it developed a ticking noise, but seemed to be working, and the ticking noise would disappear. I changed the molded plug just as an act of exasperation, but the no light, no cold function kept appearing, only cured by unplugging and replugging.:dunno:

So I reached the end of my tether and on Saturday went to Curry's and bought a Bosche Fridge/Freezer at more than I'd set out to pay............it comes tomorrow. That's fine............but what's really, really irritating is that the Fridge/Freezer is now working perfectly, purring away, not a hint of a problem.:gaagh::gaagh:

Had you been living in Wales, under the Sale of Goods act, if anything goes wrong with it within 6 years of purchase, the shop is liable to repair or replace the item free of charge. In England, I think the timespan is 3 years. A warning to everyone. Do NOT take out added warrenty, you are legally covered by the Act.:dbgrtmb:

Meaning the news that I'm on the wrong side of the border [only by a few miles] for a 6 year guarantee does not lessen the desire to shoot my Fridge/Freezer with a Shotgun.:heehee::heehee::heehee::D Good news for you though, Dai:thumbsup::D

Remember to remove the Lamp and the Plug, for future use
Keep the cabinet for Container Gardening

You could use it as a cold frame :heehee:

It's 6 years in England, N Ireland and Wales, in Scotland it's 5.

It doesn't guarantee you a replacement or refund/partial refund though. From 6 months - 6 years from the date of purchase it's up to the purchaser to show that the fault was present at the time of manufacture and it's not down to normal wear and tear. For a fridge/freezer that you say is 5-6 years old? if you challenged the retailer over it's breakdown they'd be within their rights to request an engineers report paid for by you. If that report showed usual wear and tear on components and you wanted a repair you'd be liable for the cost of repair. If the report showed a manufacturing fault then retailer would be liable and should refund you the cost of the engineer's report.

If it was a year old it wold be worthwhile speaking to the retailer, as it's potentially 6 years old and it's been fine for the vast majority of that time, probably not.
