    from their website:

We are always interested in purchasing antiquarian, second- hand and modern books on all subjects whether libraries or small collections.

it's like our local pawn shop .... take your valuables there .... they know you are skint .... tell you wait a few minutes ... they check the ebay prices .... see that it sells for £300 and offer you £30 (and know you need the money)

better to sell direct to the consumer ... sell it on ebay, but list it international (all countries) .... if it is valuable, you will get it sold if you advertise it correctly and start the price low so that you can generate interest and get people bidding against each other

There's a good web site, I think it's ABE where all the book dealers stock is advertised and where you can enter the title and details of your books and it will show a list of the same which are on offer.

      Books to sell on somehow

      Oooerrr
In same postition just the past two weeks, cleared our old home libarary, ditched dozens of old books, as not first editions
Though we have kept these and need to try sell them

First editions from 1879 to 1921

Do not know where to start without being ripped off

Ziggy, do you travel through Crewkerne on your way to West Bay from home? There is a second hand book shop on the corner of Market Street as you turn to go towards the Station (sorry not describing that very well, I can picture it but can't remember it's name).

That has some very expensive secondhand gardening books inside. They would give you a price, you can always say no - at least thats a starting point - like others have said you will get more on ebay than the dealers offer.

Jack, Mrs JWK collects first editions of the classics, she goes to Hay On Wye once a year to search them out. She pays £4 to £10 each, but of course some individual ones are selling for much more.

I love going to this place, near Bristol, the biggest secondhand bookstore in the UK:
Bookbarn International - The UK's largest used book warehouse.

I've bought quite a few gardening books for £1 each.

      Their seachable website is here:
      Advanced Search

So input some of your titles and see what they are selling them for.

I've used that ABE booksite barnaby mentions, theres a bigger list on ABE as many many dealers use it.

Ziggy have you got any museums in your area. It would be worthwhile contacting them and see what they have to say. If they aren't interested in buying the history book they could probably put a value on it for you and you won't get ripped off!

Or they might give you names to contact about it.

Even in it's current condition I thinks it's age might put value on it. :)
