I wouldn't like to advise anyone where to install a Carbon Monoxide monitor.
I've just read about 6 sites who are "Experts" with these devices.
I've read that the ideal position is:-
      • at Ceiling level
      • at close to Ground level
      • at Head height
      • at mid Wall level
They all seem to suggest that they not be placed close to generators of CM gas (fires etc.) to prevent false alarms, but it seems a minefield to get the right advice.
I think it would be wise to invite the local Fire Service, who generally offer an advisory service, and discuss the pitfalls, requirements etc. with him (or Her - being PC)

That would be the worst decision to make, as I have said before, the the fire brigade people are very good at putting out fires and rescuing people, but they can't even tell you what pressure or how many litres / minute their pumps provide. The best people to ask are the makers of your chosen detector, or if all else fails read the instructions, since it can vary from brand to brand.

The only way you can have total security with this it seems is to have three, top, bottom and middle.

When British Gas fitted our new boiler they hung a monoxide detector on the wall beside it at head height.

Val. They have built new homes near us with Gas Heating, and all the Carbon Monoxide Detectors are set on the walls @ 5 ft up from floor level. Is this the safety level:dunno::dunno:.

Perhaps the actual height isn't that important, this is the height I am keeping mine anyway.

My boiler is in it's own room attached to the outside of my home. So needing a detector is not a problem.
