Tomato Growing Competition 2012

Be afraid, very afraid! Maybe NOT the biggest tomato BUT maybe the BIGGEST tomato plant? One off my Delicious has gone ape! :(

 

Then perhaps you need to strap it down to keep it out of trouble:

 

Are those steel or leather straps? Neither of which would probably work, it's an alien plant?

A couple of "Delicious" have just started flowering, one off my "Big Boys" too!

The Harbinger (not in the comp) have gone crazy as too have my Gardeners Delight.

I will be potting them all into their final "resting" place over the weekend if I get the 2nd Greenhouse up and finished.

Once again, good success to everyone in the competition, may the best grower win and more importantly, win or lose, hope your tomatoes taste good, whatever size

My Big Zogs are getting away now, got 2 in the ground in the greenhouse and a few back up plants on the windowsill.

 

Please change comp to "smallest" tomato! My Bigguns are doing well BUT my Gardeners Delight have gone ballistic and I sowed them 9 days later :(

The main (big) contenders got transplanted into their final "Buckets" today, so it's a matter of wait and see

 

Frost promised here tonight, but looks like its going to warm up a bit after that so I think that I shall put the first few toms out out in the blowaway on Tuesday. Brandywine Black is probably the only contender for size & then its an outsider, so I might have to cheat & paint some pumpkins red. If I can get any to geminate.

 

My Toms are on strike at the minute... time i gave them a good talking to....

 

I havent got any big tom varieties on the go either. If it was the largest number or weight of toms grown in a single container i might have been in with a shout

Its been up and running for a good while now, i`m always thinking of something new to incorporate so i doubt it`ll ever be completely finished.

 

Flowers now showing on my first lot of Phil's Fantastics, but being early plants some of these will probably have the first and maybe even second trusses removed and I'll let higher trusses set fruit. This is supposed to produce bigger tomatoes, but perhaps a high risk strategy if you've only got a few plants, and especially if they having promising megablooms on them.

 

Blimey, i'm up against some serious competition here

 

Which variety rootstock did you use?
