I've just heard there are massive queues on the M25. Fifty miles in one direction and 25 miles in the other. As yet I don't know the reason.

Yes, massive queues on the M25 aren't rare. I was stuck in one that got so bad that people got out and walked their dogs or played football.

Actually, the rare thing is when you get to your destination without encountering a problem.

We went to Shiney's last month round the M25 from the M3 to the M11 no hold ups at all, I think that was a first (and probably last!).

Most motorway hold ups are due to the police.
They like to totally investigate every detail of any accident and keep motorways shut for hours, not just one or two lanes, but the whole thing on safety grounds.

Pity they dont apply the same thinking when your house gets burgled.

in south africa, we have tow vans .... have an accident and they swoop on you within minutes ... they have illegal cb radios tuned into the police and traffic control ...

if there are no deaths, they hitch up your car and tow it away (with or without your approval) .... you end up paying approx £200 per day storage plus towing fees etc .... they are like vultures and even fight amongst each other as to who gets to tow your car

when you collect your car and pay, the battery is different, tyres have been changed, and some people even claim mechanical parts are swapped

good thing though is that traffic flows smoothly soon after

The M25 is bad, but so is the A14 ... you can sit in traffic jams for 3-4 hours or longer ... strangely, if there is an accident, traffic jams are in both directions??
