Tomato grow house.

Hi All,

I have 3 tomato plants in a pop up grow house, the grow house stated that it was a 3 plant grow house, but it looks like the Amazon in there at the moment. The plants have got that big that they are pushing out the plastic cover at the sides. I am presuming that this is not good for the plants. All 3 are carrying toms and have lots of flowers on so i think that they like it in there.
Is it a good idea to leave them where they are or invest in another grow house and move one of the plants out?

Sorry i didn't post photos earlier. The grow house is 4 foot wide, 5 foot high and 1.5 foot deep.

The foliage looks quite lush - what are you feeding them on?

 

Mine are on a steady diet of porridge ATM Kristen!!

 

Hi All,

I am removing side shoots and I'm feeding them on westlands tomato feed. When you say lush do you mean too much leaf growth? I will see if I can fit another grow house somewhere and take one out and see how they get on I think. First year growing them so. But trial and error.

Yes - lots of leaf, and its a lovely dark green colour - I like to see Tomato plants a bit more "starved"!!. If you are using a proprietary Tomato fertiliser I can't see that being a problem.

 

Yes, you could do that. Tomato Fertiliser companies wnat you to use the maximum possible - that equates to their profits!

But ... your tomato fertilizer N-P-K should have a ratio (between the figures) of something like 1-1-2 - so perhaps an NPK of 7-7-14 or something like that. If that's the case then the Nitrogen is not particularly high, and the Potassium is twice as much ... which is ideal for flowering and fruiting plants.

I tend to feed Tomatoes about 1/2 what the instructions say (but usually at the recommended times, but using half strength only)

You haven't planted them in Manure - or something else providing an alternative source of Nitrogen - have you per chance?
