So ... on the personal details page. Who has given their gender as 'unspecified'. I think we should be told.

I think I'm definitely a chap. I have a beard. Wife doesn't have a beard. Also I'm the slightly bigger one of the two of us. And the direction of money flow is biased from me to wife. I think that's how you tell the difference isn't it?

I think there's a valid point here by Clare.
People should show their name and gender, It can be misleading and a tad dishonest.
Some people are paranoid or maybe just a little shy?

My thinking was that maybe some members are genuinely neither one nor the other. I defend their right to be unspecified. We are an inclusive bunch on here. :heehee: Zig, re: classes in Rochester: a couple of years back, just after massive cuts in education were announced, a large sign appeared at Rochester Station saying, in bold lettering, 'University of the Creative Arts'. It was placed slap bang above the door to the Ladies.

:yikes: Why does it matter I could be from Mars .

I look at it like this I thought Armandii was a woman and Simbad a man at first , how wrong was I , as long as they are helpful , friendly , dont insult , put down I could go on and they have both turned out to be in my top ten of favourite people on here .

LOOK at Robajobs "Occupation "One armed Lion Tamer "

Me - I've just changed myself to unspecified!

I got all excited when I noticed there was a 'Preferences' section and thought I could put some interesting details in there, but was really disappointed to find it was restricted to 'Browsing Preferences'.

I had to fill in a form recently when making a formal complaint to a council. I agreed to do the 'equality' part, just because to be honest I don't think it matters, and I hate the way people are conditioned to be slightly embarrassed about who they are in case they don't fit the desired profile of the day.

I had to give up that section of the form part way through because I encountered the most PC, bureaucratic question ever. Think of the most ridiculous phrase you can imagine, then multiple the ridiculous factor by infinity, and you might get somewhere close. It was something like this:

Is your gender identity dissimilar to the gender identity designated to you at the time of your birth?

I think it was asking if I've had a sex change. They could just ask.

EDIT: How spooky is that. No sooner did I mention the form I filled in, and I've just received a response:

At risk of drifting off topic, this is because I complained to Wirral council about them being so mean as to try to destroy someone's communal garden that they built themselves at their own expense.

Why? So if somone registered for these forums as unspecified then gives you the impression they were a woman but actually they were a man, wouldn't you be a tad concerned?
It highlights everything that's bad about social networking. People should be open and honest about themselves imho.

"Designated to you" ? That implies the existance of God.

Well done on the complaint BTW:dbgrtmb:

On one hand I agree with you 100%, but consider the flip side. What if we were a sexist bunch, and a young woman joined who just wanted to discuss gardening and general banter, without been treat any differently to, say, an old man.

Doesn't worry me in the slightest as this is a gardening forum, and not a social networking or dating site.
