I rent my home and have had no work done on it recently. Yes I have got a letter from these people http://www.bbacerts.co.uk/ saying they're gonna send someone out to inspect recent work. The letter is address to "the homeowner" and unless I phone or email them, they will be sending someone out next week!!! :runforhills:

Now I'm not stupid, the website looks dodgy, so I'm sure it's a scam. What do I do? Who do I tell? Am I within my rights to send them a rude email???

Don't Email them, that would acknowledge your existence.

ok, won't do that then. It says phone them for an appointment, or else they will just send someone out next week! the only way to stop them is to phone or email them

That's (British Board of Agrément) a legit organisation as anybody who works in the construction industry will know.

Perhaps you should be speaking to your landlord/lady?

Tell the landlord and leave it at that, but bear in mind your tenants rights, unless its an emergency (gas leak or similar) nobody can insist that you let them in without you having been given 48 hours advance notice that they're coming.

If they do come round, keep the door on the chain, put a tea cosy on your head and act like the jailer from Life of Brian.

I've had people knocking on the door when i've had a for sale sign outside, pretending to be removals men & offering to price up what we've got for moving, when all they really want to do was see if there was anything worth stealing.

The BBA (British Board of Agrément) are an accredited organisation that I've dealt with in many years of construction industry specification writing.

This seems to be a simple case of misunderstanding, or muddled address

another little thing you can do is type the telephone number in google and see who belong to , many time I saved time and money just by doing that and not calling.

Landlady called them. We had new back windows put in last year, it seems to be a new Health and Safety Law that they should be checked. Landlady suggested I should let them, I agreed, but theyre being awkward about the date.

They said in the letter from Mon to Thurs next week, but they're wanting friday. I emailed and told them no, I'm at hospital on friday & the reply I got was "our people are busy until friday. will you be at hospital all day?" I emailed back and said YES!!!

I'm not gonna explain this to them, but I will be up at 5am to run hubby into work so I can have the car for the day. Get home about 6am, back to bed for a nap (cos I'm an insomniac, so I prob won't have got to sleep much before 2am). Up about 9am, shower, brekky, put washing out etc etc, hospital late morning and goodness knows how long I'll be up there! I don't think I'm unreasonable not to want the hassle of a stranger poking round my house that day.

Tell them to get stuffed. If they want to come round, they can do so on your terms. If you can't agree a mutually convenient time next week, then they'll just have to suggest some other times for you to choose from.

Its not unreasonable to expect people to fit in with what's convenient for you, when they want to come to your home and start poking about. You don't to really tell them to get stuff, just politely but firmly tell them Friday is out of the question, but another may be fine. You don't even have to tell them why. It could just be because your favourite telly programs are going to be on, its really none of their business.
