Felix Baumgartner's jump has been delayed till 17.30 GMT. Found a live feed,

    http://www.iol.co.za/scitech/jump-from-the-edge-of-space-live-1.1399518

He'll be attempting to break 4 records,

    Highest ever jump.

    Fastest Freefall Speed.

First Skydiver to break the sound barrier.

    Highest ever manned ballon flight.

Just found out its not quite live, there is a 20 second delay in case of tragedy.

We ought to support him, his name means Orchard, so he's decended from a family of Gardeners.

Isn't the wind permanently up at that altitude? I thought it was quite normal for the wind to run at hundreds of mph once you got up above the weather.

Yep, it wasn't that though, the wind blew the ballon against the ground a couple of times.

Its very thin material, it has to be checked for damage now. Any fine tear could be catastrophic as the ballon expands as the air gets thinner.

Are you sure that its not to do with a bit of wishful thinking - the bigger the landing target the better?

I would like to know HOW
A nylon parachute, will fare, slowing you down from 690mph Surley it will shred?

Branson did his balloon trick a few years ago, and a couple of miles up the wind at 200mph took him across the world, So how do they think they will go straight up and jump back down in the same place ?

I have pop corn and coke ready

I don't know the details but i'm sure he'll deploy starter chutes like the apollo landing modules before the main chute.

I'll be checking it & will bump the thread when the countdown resumes:dbgrtmb:

Doesn't matter where he comes back down, if it fails, they'll never find enough of him to do an autopsy:oops:
