      I dont know their names, but they tend to only grow in the milder parts of the UK.. the leaves can be huge, so it's not a mallow I dont think. There are some planted in New Brighton here in Wirral, and they've become quite invasive. They are herbaceous however.

          Actually the one thing that strikes me about this plant is how Macronesian it looks, more similar to plants from the Azores, Canary Island or Madeira, than from the west of Europe (where it is native). I'll have to check if it really is herbaceous again this winter, as apparently it is evergreen..

          Yep, looks like a Treetreetree Mallow to me too:biggrin:

          Native in the South West, introduced to the rest of the UK.

          Probably came with the Phonecian Tin traders that used to deal with Cornwall in the Bronze age, but thats just a guess.

                I agree with Aesculus it's a Tree Mallow which flowers from June to September.
