think i might be getting the hang of it now :):sofa:
get rid of the bliming bark - don't stick bark or fresh manure anywhere near the roses
    soak bare root rose
    double dig a hole
mix some planting mixture 1part peat 1 part compost and a and ful of bonemeal per wheelbarrow full.
put some at the bottom of the hole
hold the rose over the hole and sprinkle on Mycorrhizal fungi
lay the rose roots like woos pic shows.
back fill with planting mixture with union 2-3 cm below soil level and make sure soil is firm
feed with a granular feed in march and again in mid to late june
put the feed on first then the mulch (well rotted manure) in a circle around the crown
    mulch again in autumn
use my rose clear in spring and then every 14 days at the very most if roses are very sick. nicking the idea of spraying on the 1st and 15th of the month rather than trying to count 14 days
dont plant them too close together
keep my secaturs clean with baby wipes inbetween plants
    deadhead as required
prune in mid march using the easy care method - cutting rose to half its height
dont plant a rose anywhere where one has been before

If you're not allowed to put manure anywhere the roses, what's the benefit of the mycorrhizal fungi? Surely it will have nothing to eat in the vicinity of the roots, and therefore surely wont do its job?

Ah, ok. I guess that makes sense. Fresh manure is too strong for most plants.

You can put well rotted manure on the surface of the soil and either lightly fork it in or leave it for the worms to do the work. The manure or any fertiliser should not be in direct contact with the roots.

That sounds just about right CRG. Your roses will definitely be spoilt. I'm the sort of gardener that does what's necessary when it's necessary, in other words I don't mollycoddle any of my plants, roses included. Like a number of gardeners, if my garden and it's soil doesn't suit the plant in question, the plant in the first instance won't be bought and secondly it has to take it's chance. There is no point trying to fight the conditions just to keep a plant alive.

Having said that the roses will be fed as they are hungry plants. :)

                CRG,

I hope I didn't offend you in my last post. I've been thinking on it all day. I said your roses will be spoilt. I should have put well looked after, I apologise for that. :) But perhaps you think I'm lax, we all garden in different ways and I suppose that's what creates the interaction here on GC.

Good luck with the roses.........how many have you got now?
