Been checking the met office website hourly today, complete tosh. Said that windspeed should have been 13 to 28 mph.

I said to Willow during one great thumping gust that that was about 60mph, shortly after, the radio said it had been gusting up to 70mph.

You didn't know about the submarine, Sheal. Ziggy knocked it up when he has a minute :snork: and, unfortunately, Jack isn't the Skipper as we've got a Kipper for a Skipper

      Doing ok Sheal:dbgrtmb:

Captain Jack Mc Sparrowlashing has always been in charge of the GC Submarine, the K -19.

It was bought off the Russians after it sustained damage during the Cuban missile crisis.

Arkhipov saved the world from nuclear destruction although most folk have never heard of him:sad:

I didn't know that, and I studied the Cuban missile crisis in some detail when I was student. We had to do a talk on a subject of our choice. We were forewarned that most of the mark would be based on how much noise the rest of the class made afterwards, so I figured a controversial subject was most likely to get the most reaction. I chose to discuss the prospect of a full blown nuclear exchange between NATO and the USSR, how close we came to it, and what it would have meant for ordinary people like us. I cited the Cuban missile crisis as an obvious one, as well as the lesser known incident in which Fylingdales early warning system (not far from where I live) picked up erroneous signals that the Russians had initiated an attack, so in response us and the US got ready to retaliate. I'm not sure how far it got before anyone realised it was a false alarm, but it could have been the end of us if either side had been just a little bit more trigger happy.

          Ninety Nine Red Ballons.

It terrified all of us growing up then. The thought that it could be all over in a few minutes:yikes:

The Captain gave the order to fire, not knowing if the war was already raging above him or not.

No one individual should have that power.

Yep, you're right, Sheal, it was supposed to be an Ark.....but it kept sinking so he converted it to a Submarine........and painted it Yellow for some reason.:dunno::heehee:

I saw on the news that the Fire Brigades are sending giant pumps that have 3 kilometer long hoses so they can pump all the water away, into the next village presumably.

Once the water is on the levels the only way it can get out is by being pumped up and out to sea.

One death in Somerset, a man got trapped in his car. A few other injuries from falling branches.

The storm has passed for now & its quite a nice day.
