Just watched the movie with Joaguin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. I love country and western music but Johnny Cash was never on the top of my list ... I much preferred June Carter (but well after my Dolly)! I didn't realise that after 35 years together they died within months of each other. What a lovely film. :cry3:

Not seen the film as yet, Victoria, but I intend to. Dolly, one of my favourite pair of lungs:heehee:, and a great singer.

 I enjoyed the film, one of the rare films I went to the cinema to see.
He is a legend,I have a lot of time for his work.
Here is one of the last songs he recorded just before he died,a hell of a poignant song.

        HURT.

I was sat in the car when this came on the radio for the first time, got straight out, went into Woolworths & bought the album.

I'm not a C&W fan, i'd like Johnny Cash no matter what his influences. Remember "The Goodies" take on Country music?

                And a great character, too.

I love C&W, and bluegrass. Can't ever imagine it being fashionable, though, or was it cool for 5 minutes in about 1969, when Gram Parsons was doing his drug-soaked stuff?

Is this a recent film on general release?

Same here Freddy, although I never realised Johnny Cash was classed as such.

Your remark reminds me of the immortal line in the Blues Brothers [When asked what music is played at Bob's Country Bunker]

“Oh we got both kinds. We got Country and Western”

I kind of like a bit of country, but must admit to not being that impressed by JC personally.

Dont mind a bit of the old stuff though, Patsy Cline.
Garth Brooks was a good one.
                  Alison Krauss etc.

Never could play a musical instrument so might be talking rubbish, but I think country music has some of the best musicians.
