For Future GC Emergencies

The recent downtime left a lot of members wondering what was going on so I thought i'd bring more attention to the Gardeners Corner "Ark" on Facebook.

I know a lot of you don't like the idea of Facebook, but it is a way of keeping updated if there are any problems. Also somewhere to carry on the banter in the meantime

If you want to create a Facebook account but still want to remain anonymous its easy enough to sign up there using your same screen name as on here.

If you want to keep notifications separate then create a spare gmail account.

That way, the only time you'll get notifications is when someone is on the GCFB wall.

I resisted Facebook for ages, but have been using it to keep in touch with the kids and a few reprobates from here

I joined facebook once, cancelled it about an hour later.
God knows where they dredged up all those contacts that know me, but it was scary.

Wouldn't touch the place with a barge pole.

 

It was linked to your email contacts Peat. Thats why I suggested a separate Gmail account, it can't do that then.

 

You're alright, you got my phone number & email I was thinking of all the others waking up to a blank screen.

 

I just find the whole thing confusing.
Yahoo, Google, the whole lot seems to be involved with one another.
they all want stupid passwords, its like some kind of kids game.

Even the bank, gas and electricity, all make you jump through hoops just to find out what you owe them.
Lifes too short.
Wont be long before you wont be able to die unless you can come up with the right PASSWORD.

 

It is also important to specify that the information required to sign in is really little.

(bear in mind that whatever mail you supply will dictate what friend come up and Facebook will ask "do you want to add this friend" and you can say yes or no).

You can add 1000 people or nobody! In the news feed you will see the feed of pages you "like" or feed of your friends.
Facebook would like you to sign in with your real name, but there are countless examples of people that do not, myself included.

Of course if you want to brag about your education, your workplace etc there are plenty of possibilities to do that, but you don't have to.
Also, you can keep everything under cover (for example I keep private my friend list and my likes list but my lifeline (main page) open for everybody to see. Other do entirely the opposite.

Let's say that Facebook gives you a lot more in exchange for a password compaired to some other institutions.

 

I notice they want your current e mail address, WHY?
In other words, once you sign up they know all about you from your existing E mail address, all your contacts probably as well.

 

When was the last update(ive had no email)? im the only one being tweeted(not) or was unless others have since joined
So i have to stalk zig on facebook

 

Except it doesn't look like it's kept up-to-date?
