The only time these so called celebrities make it into the news is when they either get married or make a mess of their lives. I really can't believe that people want to read or watch this trash.

I'm with you Fidgetsmum. Most waiting rooms be it surgeries or otherwise have nothing but this rubbish to read. I take my Kindle with me. :)

        That's a bit harsh:sad:

I was on the news once because my school was celebrating its 100th birthday, and once because the news wanted to show our steel fabrication workshop on the go, featuring a good shot of me angle grinding my finished piece of work to death (because the film crew liked the sparks), and I was in the paper because I was trying to get sponsorship to do a parachute jump for charity. I didn't even make the news when I got married.

The celebrity culture means nothing to me either.
Wife and daughter are often amazed at my inability to recognize film or TV 'stars' at a glance.
Watching some random advert on TV the other night, some mean, moody and scruffy looking bloke was advertising something ... I couldn't really work out what.
When the whole thing mercifully came to an end, I said "So who was that then?"
My nearest and dearest looked at me aghast, in a somewhat pitying manner.
"That" I was informed, "was Johnny Depp". :dunno:

It may be harsh Clueless, perhaps it's an older generations view. Give yourself 10 years and you'll probably be thinking the same way. Many of these people thrive on the attention that they get from the media and general public, let's face it, whatever is going on in their lives we've heard before. Like the tv programmes, it's just repeat after repeat. 'You and I' prefer to keep our private lives to ourselves, which shows we have more respect for ourselves and our families than celebrities do.

I respect what you have said above about your school celebrations, that is entirely different to reading about the up's and down's of celebrity life. :)

Having been in the media a number of times it certainly hasn't made me a celebrity! :heehee:

Over 60 years ago I was in the News Chronicle (national paper) and was a mini-celebrity for almost a week :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
                    P1110711.JPG

I've been on TV, twice, and in the local papers numerous times and none of that 'non-fame' lasted more than a few days. Even with all of those, I was only recognised by people who already knew me - and most of them took the pee out of me :snork:

Mrs Shiney has done better than me :love30: . She has been recognised by people that had never known her. Particularly after she had been on 'Double Your Money' in 1962. After the programme was aired she was stopped in the street many times with the comment 'weren't you on...' :).
In more recent years she was on the 'Six O'Clock News' and was, again, recognised afterwards by strangers. She was also in The Sun but nobody ever admitted to reading that! :heehee:

Harry, what's a Kerry Katona?

 Only the repeats, our broadband wouldn't stream well enough to watch live telly anyway.

I have met so many I can't name them ... this has come up before. T'other half worked in the music industry in Alabama/Tennessee in the 70s ... Cher, Kiss, Chad & Jeremy, Charlie Daniels, Frankie Valee, Climax Blues Band, Allman Brothers, Doctor Hook, Marshall Tucker Band, Emerson, Lake & Palmer (I hated them live) ... and the rest ...

When I was in my teens I loved old music ... I have a signed photo by Roy Hamilton that says 'To Vic Best Wishes Roy' ...

Didn't think about it! Of course, some of you may be too young to recognise the people in the picture I posted above. It's Richard Attenborough and his wife (film star and actress) Sheila Sim. Both of them were in the first production of 'The Mousetrap'!

Like Victoria, I've met, and known, a lot of celebrities in the pop world, but mine were in this country :) (apart from having lunch with Diana Ross :rolleyespink: ). Laurie London, Helen Shapiro, Cliff Richard, Tommy Steel, Joe Brown, Marty Wilde, Emile Ford, Billy Fury etc
