    Hello all,

I managed to get hold of ten Strawberry Plants that had been grown
from last years runners........... I was reading about this and on lots of sites
it says to remove the flowers from year 1 plants, so that you get a better
    yield next year (year 2)

My question is that these runners were started last year, so are these classed
as year 1? should I be removing the flowers or should I let them bear fruit
    this year?

    Thanks

Have they had a complete growing season or were they only pegged & rooted last summer.? Pegged & rooted last year = year one.. ;)

Enjoy the fruits this year as I did with mine last year.
I am looking forward to more this year as I have got plenty to enjoy due to nobody else wanting them in this house. Greedy soul that I am.

Yes the guy I brought them from said he rooted the runners about August last year..................so I guess no strawberries this year then  Will it
really effect next years yield that much.

They say if you pick the flowers off the first year it gives you a strong healthy plant following year that yields larger fruit.. No runners this year..
If you let them flower this year you will get smaller fruits & runners.. Smaller fruits & runner next year.. Soooo up to you really..
Runners come after fruiting... Also Strawberry plants are nitrogen hungry plants.. So watch out for weeds...

I'd just let them do their thing. You'll get some fruit as opposed to no fruit this year, and they'll still be 2 year old next year:dbgrtmb:

Thanks for the replies.......have decided to grow 7 of them and not to allow
any fruit on the other 3

I don't grow much in the greenhouse during the summer months and just wondered if the temperature would be too hot for strawberries?
