Maximum Image Size for Gardeners Corner...

    :thumb: Hi everyone, whether you are new to Gardeners Corner, or just not posted a photo on here before.

    Please can everyone make sure when posting photos that they do not exceed the maximum size for Gardeners Corner..
    Your images must not exceed 800 x 600 (to fit a 15" screen.)

    This can be easily done when editing your photos if doing it yourself or if you upload them to Photobucket to re-size then please select 800 x 600 as shown below..

    PLEASE NOTE - IF THE IMAGE IS TOO BIG AND YOU FIND THE SCROLL BAR ACTIVATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN, PLEASE RESIZE THE PICTURE.

    Check with the preview before posting it.
    If you try to edit it after posting, the cookies will retain the original image even if you delete it from PB. You will need to re-size & re-name it to load it onto PB again for posting on GC.
    If you need help, contact one of the mods.

    Hi, I'm a bit muddled. The size for pix given here is 800 x 600, but when I go to upload, the permissible size is given as 19.5 KB, 620W and 280H. I tried resizing one of my pix to this size....280 pixels in height (& it came out with a much narrower width than 620 pixels.) I reduced the size to 18-ish KBs. The result was very pixelated and blocky, and I think I may be doing something wrong.

    Later add....

    (I am now going to look at how I could use an image hosted by another site instead....)

    Canna, it doesn't have to be 800x600! It can be any size as long as it's not bigger than that. Okay?

      Aha! I saw the 280 high limit, resized my nice big photos to that, and when I posted they were barely viewable. Now 800 x 600 - I can do something with that! Thanks! :dbgrtmb:

      My photos are 2048 x 1536 and I upload them through the 'Upload a File' link below. They get posted the correct size so I think the site resizes them for you, if they aren't too big. It's an easy way to upload :dbgrtmb:

      Takes a bit longer though, so for folk with a slow connection it will be "quicker" to shrink the filesize first and then upload. Assuming you are happy using Image tools to do that of course.

      My upload 'speed' the other day was 0.36Mb and I timed an upload of a photo using the link below. It took 14 seconds. It would take me longer to shrink the photo and upload it and I don't have to use any software to do it. I'm a Luddite at heart and try not to use any software unless I have to :heehee:

      Good job ... you won't be upgrading to a 20 MegaPixel camera then ... I expect that will take more than 14 seconds to upload an image on your steam drive broadband :)

      But its a good point - Keep It Stupidly Simple :)

      My camera is an 8.1MP but I have it set down to 1.4MP (lowest setting). I don't need anything higher than that unless I want to do some high quality printing. It lets me get many more pictures on the memory card and saves memory on the computer's hard drive - apart from being much quicker to upload. :dbgrtmb:

      An old thread I know, but just wondering if anyone can tell me where I can get a picture resizing programme that is simple;)
      ie. put in what Kb pic size you want and it does it automatically.
      I've got this stupid one that resizes via picture size, or pixels but lots of sites state the size in kb.

      Cant work out how you get them down to the correct Kb size by messing around either with pixels or actual picture size

        Microsoft Powertoys Image Resizer

        Its very easy to use, once downloaded right click on image / choose resize image / choose the size you want I always use 900x900 click resize job done,

            Yes downloaded it Martin, thanks, it is better than other stuff I've tried.

            But I still cant work out why resizing programmes dont give you the chance to decide regarding Kb, Mb etc. when that is what most sites state when you upload.
