This is a plant I bought at Shiney's Open Day but I've no idea what it is. But now the flowers are showing some one might be able to ID it.

I don't think so, Sheal. The leaves are very like Kerria Japonica [which it is not] but it's only at 16" high, with those small hooded flowers.:coffee::snork:

      Is it Cedronella, perhaps?

        Definitely not kerria!

Thus ends the extent of my gardeners knowledge bank: but I really do believe, it is not a kerria japonica!

To be honest M, I never thought it was. I have had a Kerria Japonica in the garden for years and they can get to 12' or more high with those bright yellow double flowers.

It is cedronella canariensis. Does it have a lovely sweet balsam aroma?

No, I don't think so, GA:dunno: The stem is stiff and yellow green, and the leaves are almost identical to Kerria although smaller.:snork:

Yes, it appears to be cedronella but it wasn't grown by Mrs Shiney. So it must have been brought along, by one of our visitors, to be sold for the charity. A large proportion of the plants brought from outside were brought by GC members (they filled a 6ft long table :blue thumb: ) so maybe it was brought by one of them.

People quite often grow them for their pleasant scent . If you brush against the leaves they usually have a stronger scent than the flowers. Some cats like the smell as well :cat-kittyandsmiley:

It's not hardy but will survive in a greenhouse. It seeds easily but propagates much quicker from basal cuttings.
