...I'd fixed that refill problem in the upstairs toilet when I moved in. Finally got round to fixing the upstairs bog. There was clearly a leak as it kept 'ghost' refilling which is basically short quirts from the refill valve every now and then. So I turn off the supply and mark the level in the cistern with a pencil to see how fast it drained (leaked). Pretty fast as it turned out!
It's a dual flush arrangement and where it is supposed to clip in at the base, one clip was broken so a good seal couldn't be achieved.
Had I known it was that bad I'd have done it ages ago!

Suprising how much damage a little bit of water can do over a long time.

Had to deal with a major damp problem in a Chancel once, couldn't see how the damp was rising that high until the Churchwarden told us they still use the Piscina in the wall for Christenings.

She said it drains away, not sure where it goes though

You'd think Holy Water would have had more respect for the fabric of a Church

Dripping taps are touted as wasting 90 Litres a week - call that 5,000 Litres a year.

I think water meters encourage folk to get the dripping things fixed (well ... maybe not?!!) and that is A Good Thing :)

Its a pity the water companies arn't charged for "their" leaks.
I know of two on the way to work, both marked with blue paint for over a week and they just got round to fixing one of them.
Caused a tailback for two days while they did it.

I suspect they are obliged to go via Highways to get a permit for the working on the road and if it is not an emergency then red tape et.c may get in the way.

We had a burst here - 6" main that runs along the edge of the garden. It wasn't doing any harm - coming out at a rate of knots of course, ran into the ditch right beside, and headed off downhill ...

Reported sometime in the morning when I spotted it, inspector chappie was out in a couple of hours said there would be a delay as they needed a tree felling to get to it and that always held things up. I asked if I felled the tree if that would help them? he was very grateful. I said I would get the tree felled that afternoon. Their team arrived in the evening and worked until well after midnight to fix it.

I dare say it doesn't always turn out like that, but they ain't always tardy either :)

Uh oh. I think it was wasting more than that! Trouble is the water dribbled from the cistern and down the back of the pan straight into the water so it didn't really notice.
Ah well, all done now:) Perhaps I'll get smaller bills and stop telling SWMBO to have quicker showers as the water bill is huge! Oops.

That's supposed to be the clue, eh? :) Better (supposedly) than outdoor overflows that then freeze in winter.

Erica wants you to put your pint of beer on them so that you don't leave a ring mark on the table. At least that's what I've always assumed they were for ... :)
