Harvested a red cabbage the other day. After stripping off the outer leaves it was still 4lbs 12oz !!

Ate some of it this evening cooked with bacon and apple.:stirpot:

Anyone got any other good red cabbage recipes? Still got enough for a couple of more meals.

5 miles to the West of us is the orchard where we picked the Bramley apples yesterday,
2 pies, one for us and the other for very dear friends. He loves my pastry around a filling of Bramleys. Lovely missus but she don't do baking,

And 5 miles to the East is this dairy. A working farm, no pretty roses around the farmhouse door, but milk and cream that's out of this world - as gold as butter. To go with that pie...

We used to buy fresh milk straight from the cow in Ireland, we would fetch it in 4 pint milk bottles, ladled out of the cooling machine, after it stood overnight the cream would be a thick crust on the top.

I made a meatballs in tomato and red pepper sauce, with courgettes and onions, and garlic bread to mop up the juice. Took about 15 minutes to make, cost next to nowt, and was delicious:)

I had apple mush with raisins and cinnamon. I did have a Chinese meal out at lunchtime, though, and a large cream scone, so have not starved!

I'm really impressed by all your cooking expertise. I hardly cook anything proper these days.

Zigs - did you only have the one chard leaf?
