I've just collected another couple of pallets to cut up (to join my stockpile of nearly 100 I've got stashed away that I haven't cut up as I don't know whether I'll need firewood or to build a raft)

When we were up in Scotland last month on our hols we noticed everywhere we went that the Rowan trees were laden with berries. In fact on a lot of the trees you couldn't see the leaves for the amount of berries on them.

Now I know we have never been to Scotland in September before so don't know if that is the norm for that type of tree but I know for us down here it is usually the sign of harsh weather to come, but it might just mean that that the Highlands are going to get the worst of it as the starlings have already noshed all the ones on our tree although my Pyracantha and Cotoneaster shrubs are full of berries waiting for the Fieldfares to arrive in the garden when we do eventually get the snow.:snork:

As I don't read either The Mail or Express newspapers I don't have to worry about their predictions:snork:

The Rowans are almost bending over here with the amount of berries, I have never seen them this laden before. Normally it is because we had a good Spring which produced masses of flowers but we didn't have a Spring!

If the rowan trees can predict the future I'd like to ask them what numbers will come up on the lottery next week.

Didn't the Daily Exmail also try to cheer us up with predictions of the worst summer on record, back in May.
I think we got the last laugh there.

Ah well, now I'm retired, if it all comes to pass I'll be maybe beggaring off to SE Asia come February leaving you lot shivering under your badger skins!

That's assuming plane transport is still possible due to the sheets of ice on the runways, of course.

I'd say Rowan is a pretty tough tree, it comes for cold places, this nice sunny, dry, but cold spring would have been a doddle for it, along with a good couple of summer months.
                        That's my guess anyway.

I think the 'Express' must be talking about the island, it's pretty much normal weather here during winter.....well perhaps not the snow with the exception of this last spring! :heehee:

I thought it wasn't the trees/bushes predicting weather, but simply that as many of them produce their best harvests after a cold winter, and that cold winters come in clusters of 3 to 5, it may just appear that way.
