There was some other good news Sheal: I was born!! On the same day, and at the same time, as the Aberfan disaster. It's something I think about on every birthday.
It wasn't good news for the French Sheal Still in their history books Trafalgar was a draw ,and they sunk the Victory ! They can't believe it still exists in Portsmouth!
A very sad day Lorea I was 15 at the time so remember it very well . It was a horrific accident, and devastated that little community.
Seeing this thread title reminded me, it was on this day in 1976 that I started my first job after leaving school. It was a Thursday. Horticultural apprentice in glasshouse crops production. I cycled 7 miles each way for the first few days. How many of today's yoof would do that? After a week or so, dad lent me the money to buy a moped. After the hottest, driest summer on record, it turned into the wettest autumn for years. I got soaked every day. I'm still working in horticulture now, 37 years later.
