But they've already done that! (I lie, they've put them up by over £2/week)

Typical con, reduce the energy bill by £1 per week per home
Advise that instead of the energy company adding the £1, the Gov would pay it now through taxes
So previous £1 pw per home extra
Now a working family of four are paying £1 pw EACH in tax, giving the Gov four times what they were previously paying OUT :-)

The £50 figure is just something I think the Government has pulled out of the air. The Energy Companies are now saying that they will now reduce bills by the amount the Government has said they have taken off the Green tax. Unfortunately, the Energy Companies seemed to have ducked the bullet with the Government not prepared to confront them about the complexity the Energy Companies have invented to hide the actual cost of gas and electric to them from the consumer. There is a wall of different tariffs that are designed to confuse the issue and hide the actual profit ratio that the Companies make and yet the Government has bee reluctant/ineffectual in reducing stonewalling and lack of transparency by them. And there is still the fact that there is still a large amount of Green Tax on your bills and my bills:wallbanging::gaah:

It's a big con because all the energy companies (apart from British gas) have announced they will not be passing on the savings to all the millions of customers on fixed price deals and will pocket the savings themselves, further increasing their profits.

Not nearly as many as the millions who'll be taken out of fuel poverty by the government's proposal to change the definition of it.

Well, they can't expect to have it both ways, surely?
The whole point of a "fixed price" deal is the understanding that prices can increase and decrease.

There's 2 types of "fixed price" contracts and one allows changes in government levies, etc. to be adjusted.

Do you believe that if the government introduced a flat rate lump sum levy of say £75 per household to be slapped on the end of fuel bills that the energy suppliers wouldn't add it to 'fixed price' bills?

I'll put a link on the meter for free electric and I'll rob them as they are robbing us.
I live next door to a elderly lady and her daughter asked me if I would fetch her bed down into her living room, so she wouldn't have to heat the entire house.
And the bad weather isn't here yet

It's an "only in your mind"£50, JWK, you'll never actually see or feel the "benefit" in your Bank Account or in your Energy Bills.:dunno::doh::snork:
