We do have a plastic tank, but *touch wood* now we've got it covered over (with an air vent) and the tank soakers just in case, we've been ok water-wise. We have been told though that metal tanks can cause more condensation inside? :dunno:

Part of me would like to convert it, which would cost about nearly as much as a new 2-oven from what I've heard... or the electric multi-control, switch on with your iPhone look appealing. Again though it's money, and having the oil can be nice :)

Metal 2700 litres about £1500 and will be buned which will be better for condensation

 coming from a new-build house to a 35 year old conversion is taking some getting used to! The villages surrounding us, one only a mile away, have mains gas. They must have forgotten about us

Thankfully electricity seems to be good, internet is ironically better than where we moved from, but no Virgin cable (same as where we moved from) and we've had to be very selective with mobile phone company. I was with 3 but there is a 3-mile radius black hole with their coverage!! I'd have to drive down in to Bakewell to make a call! The others are hit and miss especially with 3G coverage, O2 is the best. But I go to bed to the sound of tawny owls (and the local rooster...!) and wake up to a multitude of birdsong (including aforementioned rooster and pheasants...) so swings & roundabouts?

Oh, back on my original rant, my aga that's been on manual high fire for nearly 24 hours is halfway between the cool black part and the ideal temp line... It was a quarter down to the black after I'd finished yesterday's meal!

sounds like it's carbon up in the cooker burner and not getting it's fuel or it can be that the draw (air flow) is not right which will give you a yellow flame and soot up quicker under the hot plate

The burner looks perfectly fine, if it was meant to be on low fire ;) can just see the top of a nice blue flame. Last time it put itself out as soot had choked the pipe leading to the burner. The odd thing though for me is, the thermostat clicks on/off at the 1 position... but if it were that low, it'd be overheating as that was an early problem we had, when the thermostat needed replacing. But surely then forcing it to manual high fire bypasses the thermostat?! Aaargh, bloody things

@Ellen Ellen, on your oil controler, have you got a black box with wires one end and a arm coming out the other end, on top by the manual controler

I have. I've checked there's clearance at the reset button at the back, have quickly pressed it a dozen or so times. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears!

At the moment it's switched on to manual high fire. Which is doing nothing, it's still acting as if it's happily up to temperature!

If you turn the manual control knob up and down you should see the flame change, if the flame does not then i think you are not getting the fuel through,
have you looked at the filter in the oil controler and on the fuel tank to see that they are clean

Mine's got the little left-to-right switch that's about 1/4" long. I've put it from low, to high, back again, back to high, it's still happily doing next to nothing :( I was thinking oil supply, but the thermostat clicking on/off on 1 (it's usually between 3 & 4) confuses me. I'm also not comfortable enough taking it apart to look at filters :( I need to download the full service manual I think ;)

Aww thanks Jiffy! You've been lots of help, you've spent a fair bit of time trying to remotely get to the bottom of it!
