My son won't be pleased, he's only just got his house back together after a water pipe burst during the last snow.

Well, we're due to get wind and rain on Friday from the depression that's just leaving them, but I must admit I'm waiting for some colder weather to hit us. America seems to be getting some record cold weather and snow which just might affect us in some way.:dunno:

The last time america had a cold spell, practically every single mainstream media company were weaving clips of "the day after tomorrow" (an obvious work of propaganda) into their stories. :heehee:

Too late for me. I'm already struck down.

@Zigs, would that be a load of sea coal you've found? We get loads on our beach, but its much finer than that. When I was a kid, before Redcar was declared a 'smokeless zone', everyone used to burn it. I used to help my parents and grandparents collect it and turn it into 'rockets'. Having collected it up, using a sort of sweeping brush without bristles to skim it off the sand, you take a couple of sheets of old newspaper and roll a cone. You then half fill the cone, and twist the top to seal it. That not only makes it stick together into something more manageable, but the twisted end makes it nice and easy to light.

And I'll tell you what, it didn't half generate some heat. Maybe I'm looking back with rose tinted glasses but I seem to remember it generating much more warmth than ordinary coal or logs, but by eck, it didn't have pop and stink while it was burning.

It is Clue, washes up regularly. Burns great too, only need a few lumps in with the wood :)

Where does the sea coal originate from then? I mean, obviously the sea, but how has it gotten into the water to wash up?

Open coal seam on the sea bed about a mile out

Ah, so it just breaks off and washes in then; interesting. I've seen it occasionally in the past, and must admit that I always assumed that it was spillage from shipping.

                      Cheers Jack
