Oil guy; I'll try and be there this afternoon (Friday) but I have a job today so if I can't make it I'll be there tomorrow (today). 4:50pm and nothing. 2 weeks this has been going on now *sigh*

Edit: he's on his way! Very surprised

The problem is though Armand11 is that in this case the person who made the accusation of sexual abuse against Ken Clarke was arrested. Also there is more evidence than just his statement, he has accurately described the inside of Ken Clarkes house and the office of a high ranking police officer where the alleged abuse took place, also the security camera footage on the day of the accusations has mysteriously disappeared. Ben Fellows deserves his day in court and if Ken Clarke has nothing to hide I don't see why this should be a problem, I'm not aware of any special evidence against Michael levell that led to his court case other than an accusation. The media plastered these cases all over the news before he was even in court but Ken Clarke seems to enjoy a total media blackout regarding this one the entire thing stinks to me and I'd be far more inclined to believe Ben Fellows over a dodgey politician.

I must admit that I have no liking for Ken Clarke but that is a personal inclination rather than logical one.
As regards the case you mention you have to be aware of the legal consequences of the Laws of Slander and/or Defamation of Character you face when naming persons and inferring their implication in a criminal act, particularly on a Network Forum . Neither you or I have access to factual evidence of the allegation and the only source of "information" is via the Media therefore you and I cannot pass judgement without being biased by the source and/or our own personal feelings regarding a person.
I think recent past events have proved that the Police are by no means swayed by the Political or Financial position of a person when considering a charge against them, in fact one might surmise that, at the moment, there is a great dislike between the two parties and a willingness to clash.
I also know that the Police will only arrest a person on reasonable grounds and after serious consideration. These decisions are not taken by the Bobby on the Street but by people at a certain level where they are aware of the consequences of such an act, i.e. the scrutiny of the Media, the CPS, and other independent organisations that are eager to take up a cause for whatever reasons, and the resulting damages to be paid should irregularities be proved.
Again I would point out that your wording seems to indicate an intense dislike of a person, whether justified or not, which is actually blurring your vision of the English Law, which is not perfect, but the days of it being used by a powerful person against a lesser one are long gone due to the more open and responsive society we live in.
I understand that Conspiracy theories abound in all subjects but to me they are only a fodder used to feed people's frustrations, hates, sense of personal injustice etc but, I for one, do not need that kind of stimulation.:dunno:

Because, unfortunately, that appears to be where the "demand" lies when it comes to selling "news". And, even more unfortunately, there would appear to be a growing population of those who either: a) cannot distinguish between fact and fiction; b) couldn't care less either way just so long as it's a topic of conversation they can voice their opinion on!

Hmm, I recall being told as a child you were only ever as good/successful as your reputation. If you value your reputation, you would need to have a sense of dignity, pride and community (after all, it's the community who judge you by your reputation). Dignity, pride and to a large extent, the concept of community, are things which have been very much in decline, while "individualism" and "entitlement" are on the increase.

                    My latest moans:

                    - Just because you have flicked the indicator stalk and put the wee orange flashing light on, DOESN'T mean that you can immediately change lanes with no consideration for anyone currently in your desired lane! It is an indicator of intent, NOT a god given right to make the manoeuvre.

                    - That bleedin' advert "Anythin' for yow coopcake' :wallbanging::wallbanging: A 'yow' is something that is occasionally found 'cowpit' in the countryside, requiring to be put back on all four feet so she can rejoin her lambs.....

Although I agree with all that you've said I don't think that the sense of dignity, pride and community are mutually exclusive with individualism. :)

There I am, struggling with more bags off shopping than I should be and making my way as quickly as I can to my vehicle. Loud TOOT TOOT behind me - I am preventing her from making progress to a parking space as I am in "her traffic lane". I would love to have plonked all the shopping on the deck and reminded her that the ASDA car park is not within the remit of the Highway Code and that neither driver nor pedestrian has greater right than the other,

Oh, and by the way( post above makes reference) why oh why won't drivers indicate when they are going to leave the roundabout? It enables me to know that I can get ready to join the roundabout traffic.

In some respects, its done its job because we are making mention of it (not that I can remember what its advertising) - in reality, I would go out of my way not to buy anything from the company advertised just because of their annoying advert!
