Its on the news now, a Dutch company has arrived to pump out the flood water. The man in charge is apparently an expert in the subject of sorting out flooding. The reporters were a few feet away from the man, but he didn't say anything. Why? Apparently the government have instructed him not to speak to the British media. I wonder why that is. I wonder if they don't want him to chastise the government or mock them for their response so far, or maybe they don't want him to tell the public what options there might be that might cost more than the allotted budget.

I did say, Scrungee, earlier in the thread:

He is a blunt, cunning, aggressive and. to me, unlikeable Politician [but then again there aren't many Politicians I like] and I certainly wouldn't buy a second hand car from him, but he would able to bulldoze his way to get things done which is what is needed in this situation. After his biting comments about Lord Smith on Sunday he obviously received the "Black Spot" from David Cameron and was told to say the reverse in Parliament today. When he did so you could see that he obeyed his instructions, said he had complete confidence in Lord Smith etc with his tongue in his cheek. Like I said, I wouldn't buy a second hand car from him but he is able to knock heads together.
All Government policies are driven by economics and the desire to cut back, particularly now, and usually they are short sighted in that they deliberately ignore the consequences of such policies as in the case of dredging and maintenance of the drainage system of the countryside. All politicians are "ducking and diving" trying to avoid the blame for decisions made and when asked directly about their part in the abysmal situation, and the events in the past that have lead up to it, give a "reply" that comprises of several hundred words which in essence they have said absolutely nothing.
Ed Milaband gave an interview today where he was asked whether the previous Labour Government was in the wrong for cutting back on funds for maintaining rivers etc and dredging He gave a classic example of giving a speech that had nothing to do with the question he'd been asked and basically saying nothing.
I think that the Scientists, who have been warning of the consequences of cut backs over the years, have now got a strong hand and Politicians will now have to listen to them more attentively.

Have the EA run out of pumps?

Will they need to divert pumps from Somerset to areas that now have worse household flooding levels?

Who's telling the truth about numbers of flooded homes, cost of flood prevention and maintenance, etc.

P.S. I've no longer believed a single word uttered by Pickles after he promised 'Localism' with Communities supposed to be able to choose their own levels of development, then reneged and allowed developers the right for unfettered development.

Naah, haven't you heard this Government has it all under control!!:hate-shocked::heehee:

I'm pretty sure that no one knows the exact number nor is any Politician will to collate all the data accurately as they know it's bad news.

If you're in government, you can afford to take a massive gamble with anything you like. If it goes your way, you win, you stay in power at the next election and continue to earn stupid amounts of money for doing very little. If it goes wrong, you lose, you get booted out at the next election and get a highly paid job as some sort of consultant or, as in the case of tony b'liar, become an unelected person in charge of something your own track record proves you are absolutely abysmal at, and still get paid stupid amounts of money.

There was a lot of kafuffle just after the last foot and mouth outbreak, after it emerge that a bunch of students and their professor had run simulation after simulation of the spread of the disease and how to curb it, and had repeatedly told the government of their findings. They were ignored, and it spread through the whole country. Lessons were very definitely not learned. I can't see this being any different. Just a few minutes ago, that chap from the environment agency was on the box, saying how all the flooding is just down to unprecedented weather. Unprecedented means there is no precedent, ie it hasn't happened before. Well it did, it happened last year in Somerset, and in several previous years in other parts of the country, so it is not unprecedented at all. Once again, as david cameron keeps saying "there are lessons to be learned", well the lessons keep coming, over and over, and have been doing for a good few years now, if you haven't learned them yet, then sorry Mr Cameron but you clearly don't have the mental capacity to learn.

Good idea, as there will be some Thames' side, flooded out barrister from Berkshire who will sue/take out a High Court Injunction against the Government Environmental Agency for breaching their legal obligation to protect homes in preference to farmland. This is true - check out what the EA's primary legal obligations are, it's homes, not farmland.

Now he has admitted he isn't qualified or educated enough to run the country, we should be calling for him to step down.

Zigs.......I don't know whether you know this house or it's owner, but I thought you might like to see these pictures.

Sam Notaro is one of the few people left. He is continuing his desperate efforts to save his one million pound new build house from the floods.

I'll vote for that, as long as I can Minister for Justice. I would like to introduce the chopping off of hands for anyone looting the flood victims houses.
