@Sheal, while I feel for the owner of that house, and indeed all the others that are in trouble, that one has made a slight blunder in my opinion. If it had been mine, I'd have sacrificed the garden. That way he'd have a much smaller perimeter to defend, and also he could use the mud from his garden to reinforce his mud wall. As far as I can see his garden is just lawn anyway, it will be cheap to re-seed once the water goes away.

But then its easy to say what we'd do in a given situation when we're not in it.

Clueless......I take your point about the garden, but looking at the pictures it looks like he's already started on a second dyke.

                  Zigs.......I hope he does! :)

We are 90% certain that when we flooded it was so bad so quickly (not natural) it was caused by the council releasing water from a massive reservoir upstream called the Daer as they were afraid the retaining walls might break. Huge rivers like The Clyde don't rise feet in matters of minutes. They had evidently done this once before back in the 50s when it was just built but we never found any proof of this. I suppose if you look at it logically then it was the right decision to sacrifice the few for the good of the many, tho extremely tough on the few! IF our suspicions were correct it would have been "nice" of the council to inform us of what they were going to do and save us the horrifying experience of being trapped in our home with no way of escape. So easier tho to blame an act of god!

That's a dreadful experience silu, shame on the council for not owning up - hopefully no-one was injured?
