Bit of an increased risk of ending up in a river at the moment.

If you get swept into deep water, first thing to do is open the windows, if the car sinks with them shut, you won't be able to open the doors due to the pressure of the water.

If you can't then try to break the windows by kicking with your heels or using a heavy object, I keep a jack handle under the seat.

If you can't break the window, don't panic, you'll have to wait till the car fills with water, take a deep breath from the last pocket of air and hold it. As soon as the car is filled then the pressure will be equal. Open the door and head for the surface. If you're wearing boots take them off first as they'll fill with water and drag you down.

Also, if visibility is poor, always follow the air bubbles.:blue thumb:

And if driving through moderately deep floodwater, judge your speed to keep your vehicle going quickly enough to get you through but not so quick that you create a huge bow wave that will lash back at you; keep your engine revs fairly high, and DO NOT be tempted to lift your foot off the accelerator until you are clear of the water - - lifting off will cause the engine to suck the water in, which will completely knacker it.

If you do get overwhelmed by water and the engine dies, DO NOT try to restart it. Get out of the vehicle, get to a place of safety and call for assistance. The engine will need to be checked in case water has gotten into it which will cause hydrostatic lock which is more often than not fatal for the engine.

Well, if you are going to drive into a flooded road without any knowledge of how deep it is, what's lying underneath then it's best to wear a Wet Suit complete with Aqualung and one of those Submarine locator beacons in case you go under.:dunno::hate-shocked::heehee:

Get the man that walks in front of you with the red flag to also carry a long stick, which he can use to probe the ground in front of him to check the depth of the water and the firmness of the ground.
