    I believe it is old.
    A vigorous rambler.
    Large trusses.
    Single flowering I suspect.

    Buds pale yellow.
Flowers in huge clusters ..individually small, pure white, 5 petal.
    Multiple yellow stamens.

Flowers then fade to a sort of mottled pink verging on red.

Please can anyone help to give a name to this rose.
I have tried www search with no joy...too many words confuse any search.
    Thank you.

    .
    Many thanks pamsdish for looking.
Giving a name to old roses is hard.
Probably no longer in nursery catalogues.
I feel personal knowledge from everyone here, might fare better than hours wasted on computer.
I can get roses with 5 simple white petals...but not yellow in bud or fading to deep pink

Sadly Bobbie James and Rambling Rector are not THE one...
Both are semi doubles with more than 5 petals.

              That's enough hilarity Woo:smile:

This is what's proving difficult,Of course it could be one of the old Scots Roses and most of them are unnamed:smile:

At the moment all I have is ,but will continue to look:smile:

              FRANCIS E LESTER

I didn't add pics before as flowers are now as good as over. Rain hasn't helped.
For what they are worth pics added....hope they help.
              Yes.. rose is fragrant.
I have seen it in several mature old gardens in the area.
A friend has asked me for a name. Duh!

Hope you will be able to help wiseowl.

Realise it is a long shot. Just thought maybe someone might recognise it!

                Thanks for the suggestions Woo....
'Francis E. Lester' is a strong-growing large rambler with dark green foliage and pink buds..so eliminated that one

Wedding day..no sign of it aging pink/red.

                Sir Cedric Morris...ditto.

Good morning all,Silver Surfer ‘Wedding Day’This is vigorous and upright in habit with clusters of single, lemon-white flowers that often age to pink. Its fruity fragrance makes it is well worth growing. Survives on a north wall too. Yellow buds opening to creamy white single flowers held in clusters, almost immediately becoming white:smile:

Many thanks Woo for you learned advice.

Maybe I just am not finding pics of Rosa Wedding Day on www showing the deep pink the flowers fade to. Otherwise it fits well.

I am not normally nerdy about rose names but my friend who owns it has been told it is rare.
Whilst I know it is in many gardens in this area!
So just thought I would try to id it.
Really the name is an irrelevance as long as she can get pleasure and enjoyment from it.
