I'm referring to that we have potholes with in potholes, even some sort of tarmac/surface dressing will be better than none :)

Around here, it seems that the councils are finally learning; Kingston Council have made the decision to go back to HRA (hot rolled asphalt) as opposed to SMA (stone mastic asphalt) because they have learned that SMA doesn't wear or last as well as HRA. The problem with this type of surface is that it is comparatively expensive - but then, maybe you do get what you pay for?

SMA tends to be the quieter of the surfaces, but it doesn't seem to last very well - then again, that could be because it gets laid really thinly.

Hounslow Borough have recently farmed all their highways work out to a contractor on a long term contract that includes installation of LED street-lighting and upgrade of footpaths; I was dubious at first, but I have to be fair, so far they are doing a remarkably good job - - a couple of roads they have done recently are like billiard tables, and they seem to be managing it with the minimum of traffic disruption.

Richmond Council, well, suffice to say that they need to take lessons from Hounslow. Posh borough, mediocre roads.

Anyway, it seems that surface dressing is slowly falling out of favour - thankfully.
