I also liked the Truman Show, Logans Run, Mad Max, Gattaca and The Man Who Fell To Earth. Not forgetting 12 Monkeys and Children Of Men.

I loved The Piano Spruce. I do find it hard to believe that Michael Nymans score wasn't even nominated for an Oscar!

I watched Amores Perros again last night. If you can do subtitles it is well worth watching - one of the best films ever made...................

Alejandro González Iñárritu is a brilliant director, so if you don't do subtitles try 21 Grams instead...................

Babel is the third film in the trilogy (totally separate films, but a trilogy of films about death)..............

I can easily get into subtitles .... and my brain quickly changes over I forget that I am reading it I will have a nose at what you have suggested

" The Girl with a dragon tattoo " Swedish subs was really good and the latest English version was at least so much better filmed

Jen is after "The Piano" but Utube have stopped the full film

Do you mean the 1977 version with John Mills, Daniel Massey, Timothy West and Patrick Mower.

How many of you remember Patrick Mower (now in Emmerdale) in the TV series 'Callan'? Wow! I just realised that was over 40 years ago! He has made lots of films since his first one in 1966.

I would recommend the Lives Of Others then (see my first post).

I check out the charity shops regularly. It is one of the films that crops up regularly in them.

I'll give it a go even though I am rather wary of sequels.

              Your thoughts? Personally I wasn't that impressed:dunno:

I can only remember Callan being played by Edward Woodward. The only other thing I recall is some grass type geezer?? and a swinging light without a shade? I never understood that because you can pick up lampshades for pennies.

I can only vaguely remember it as I saw it when it came out. Seemed good at the time.

This clip shows most of the characters, and also Stephanie Beecham. Lovely then, but even better now ;) (Boomers)

That's right. Callan was Edward Woodward. Patrick Mower played James Cross, another spy/assassin, who didn't get on with Callan.

The other character you mention was Russell Hunter who played 'Lonely'.

The bare lamp was supposed to represent an interrogation chamber

The TV series ran from 1967 to 1972 and a film was made, called 'Callan' which was an updated and improved version of the TV episode 'A Magnum For Schneider'. The film was quite successful.

A further film was made, for TV, in 1981 and was called 'Wet Job'.

In the 1980's American TV series Woodward played a similar character in 'The Equalizer' - but his character had been sanatized for the U.S. market.
