      I have fallen in love with Belle de Louvain. A superb dark red plum that has large fruits and makes a Plum jam that'll knock the socks off a Damson when it comes to flavour:

        Do plums not take a couple of years to establish before fruiting though?

        We thought about plums, damsons and even apricots, apples and pears, but we simply do not know if we will be in this house next year or for the next ten years. Obviously, we would love to stay here but that is something that is out of our hands and I would hate to invest £30-£40 per tree only to have to leave it behind.....

        I've been mollycoddling my Blueberry for 4 years,grown in a large pot,in ericacious compost,well watered with rain water and a fed and mulched ,lovely plant but a lot of palava for a couple of batches of Blueberry muffins..

            You could try the dwarf 'patio' Apricots (Aprigold) ,I got one earlier this year,cute little thing but no show yet,I'm expecting great things in the future though:thumbsup:

                Going back to the Rasps FC ,You should grow as many as you can fit in,they're a no nonsence crop ,tough as old boots in my opinion,just mulch them up to their knees in FYM and they'll crop like a gud 'un..plus you can dig them up and take them where ever if you wish:dbgrtmb:

                  To be fair, most fruiting bushes/trees will take two or more years before they are providing a decent crop.

                  My local market and Lidl (on occasion) are the only place that I can buy decent ripe and juicy apricots. Once you've had a good one though you'll be converted!

                  Why? They're everywhere! For free!

                  They are, but by the time I get a day of work to go and get some, every other blighter has had 'em :biggrin: - I ended up buying some this year just to make the numbers up sufficiently to make jam. For a Scotsman, paying for brambles really offended me :snork:

                    @Jenny namaste - I am looking at a Damson (Merryweather) at the moment, which I have taken a bit of a shine to; wondering about taking a gamble on one as a long term prospect? Any particular reason that you think plum is better?
