I agree with you Clueless and that is why so many are inclined to a 'no' vote. If Salmond had taken the time before rushing into this and putting forward a decent plan, then something realistic could have/may have happened. There is the possibility he's just thrown caution to the wind and thought let's have the vote first, if it gets through then we'll start making plans. Bearing in mind of course he could delay independence until he has grounds to make it work. We'll find out shortly! :)

Don't forget that those Scots who are Down South don't get the vote either ...

Tut! "pair of nutters", no? Sturgeon is equally dangerous in my view.

I actually don't have too much difficulty with the lack of plan; quite often we (business / personal) take decisions based on where we want to be. We do have discussion about the Pros / Cons of how we might get there, but we sort out the detail, and deal with the road blocks and crevasses, on the way. Sure, in general terms, The Plan does need to have a bit of meat on the bones, but it certainly doesn't need to be fully formed; what we want, first up, is for everyone involved to decide that we want to do X, then get on it with. Although in fairness we would then work up a detailed plan and THEN be able to say "Bad idea" and turn back; personally I think that is one possible outcome (Gawd knows how it would be enacted though): Vote Yes, start work on the details, electorate then says "We didn't realise it would be like that" and then there is a U-turn - you know, the Tories get voted into office in Scotland at the next electrion, something like that :heehee:

Good Political Leaders should be able to say "We want to go THAT WAY" and then once they have been elected be single minded about heading in that direction. A huge part of the problem with our politicians is that they are more concerned about how they look & appear in the media, rather than achieving the objectives they have set themselves and the promises they have made to the electorate.

I'm still in the NO camp though.

Which is fine for individuals and relatively small entities (even the largest corporation isn't the size of Scotland) but totally inadequate and ill-considered for something of this magnitude!

They [the Scots] might... but they're not.

Which is a core reason this is a bad idea. A United Kingdom is, overall, better for everyone. It is more powerful united, has more influence, gets better economic status, has higher perception from outside bodies / countries. Divided it's just a bunch of squabbling tiny areas which will be too distracted by weeing contests over the next 50 years to notice the world has passed them by.

So, if Scotland leaves the union, what will happen the day after if you walk into Tesco in Glasgow and want to buy a bottle of Buckie?

Presumably you won't be able to pay in pounds? Have the yes campaign got their own currency printed up and ready to distribute (I.E. already in the Scottish banks) ?

Or am I right in thinking that it might be a total cock up and that no one will be able to buy or sell anything?

This is only the vote whether to split or not, AFAIK there is then a period of time before "anything happens"

This was the second verse of the national anthem in 1745 , maybe it should be reintroduced

              Lord, grant that Marshal Wade
              May by thy mighty aid
              Victory bring.
May he sedition hush and like a torrent rush,
              Rebellious Scots to crush.
              God save the King.

He can't. That's the one bit he has actually said something definite on. He has stated that it all has to be sorted by 2018.

In other words, and to also answer @Kristen's post, he's set the deadline without even knowing the specification or how much work is involved.

 I don't think Salmond really wants to win it.......I really don't think he could handle it.
I think his best bet for him is to JUST get beat.
I think that now banks and financial institutions etc.are thinking about bailing out if a yes vote common sense will prevail and they will want to stay.:blue thumb:

I wonder if they are actually thinking that? or if they are just not liking the uncertainty?
