Things are far from settled here. There are a lot of bad loosers about. Thank god The Ryder Cup is an all ticket (lengthy process to get tickets) affair and I'm hopeful that the event will go off without incident. It would however make a great stage for a YES protest vote so wouldn't be surprised if there are attempts to disrupt the event. If I meet Salmond at Gleneagles I'll be sure to give him a "Glasgow kiss" and wish him a short and miserable retirement!

I seem to be in agreement with pete here, if people vote for extra stuff then that's no problem with me, as long as they vote to pay for it themselves.

I did ponder on the likes of how the Barnett Formula produced such profound inequalities in Uni fees, prescription charges, personal care charges, etc., but put this down to nationalist politicians in Scotland & Wales deliberately choosing to use that money to subsidise funding of headline issues, rather than use it spread over much larger areas of expenditure that would not attract so many populist votes.

You know, until this referendum I had never heard of the Barnet Formula.
Didn't know it existed, and I bet there are a lot of others like me.

Who the hell dreamed that up?

To be fair though, it is one of the few things he might be right about. Apparently there all arguing about how to implement the promises. What puzzles me though is gordon brown has made commitments that the promises will be kept. Who is he? He wasn't even a real prime minister when tony b'liar shafted him. His party got voted out since then and he's not even the leader of the party that lost. His promise carries about as much weight as if Rab C Nesbit had made that commitment.

Anyone who thought Cameron was tell the truth is gullible.
Anyone who thought Salmond was telling the truth was equally as gullible.

They are politicians, and the one thing they do equally well is Lie, its expected of them, isn't it.

I think he did a good job with his oratory, and quite possibly made a significant difference to the outcome. He would not have made the promises, on behalf of a government that he has no say in [Heck! taking your point he has no clout in his own party!!] if he had not had some reassurances.

Labour are saying "let's just do Scotland and leave the others until later/forever" but it beats me why they would say that - sure it is a vote loser from the 90% of the electorate who will only see more power/money given to Scotland and nothing "for them", no? although I do understand that there isn't much time to come up with something coherent - not sure time would improve that, for politicians, though - in this instance I would prefer JFDI.

Anyways, assuming Cameron can control his back benchers and get Libs onside they have a majority, so Labour wanting "slow down" is irrelevant. Perhaps that it why Labour are saying it - hoping that the government rushing something through in a hurry will then look like a mess so that Labour can say "Told you so" at next election. They'll be in seriously deep doo-doo if whatever is rushed through turns out to be "good enough" ... they are already getting tarred with the brush of looking like they are just trying to do it to keep Scottish MP votes in order to maintain their voting power when next in office (although history suggests that is very unlikely to be significant and a Red Herring)

That was presumably the theory, when Barnett thought it! ... but it has drifted for a while since, and maybe is no longer fit for purpose.
