Good evening we have our local by election on Thursday, well I have just had my 12th visit from our local Conservative representative ,10 visits from UKIP and no visits at all from Labour:smile: We have at least 3 leaflets a day for the last 2 weeks, The prime minister has been in Strood to day for the 5th time,Nigel Farage has been down 4 times, haven't seen Ed Miliband as yet.I shall be awaiting the results, although Woo has a good idea who will win,I just love watching as the results come in:smile:

I believe the Lib Dems haven't visited either?
There was a representative on the radio last week trying to explain why Nick Clegg hasn't shown representation ... soon became apparent why ... the guy being interviewed kept on speaking about Rochester and StrOUD! :roflol: He's probably still trying to find it!! :rolleyespink:

      Vote wisely woo ;)

I just saw an interview with the main candidates on the TV.

I struck me very strange that for the first time it was only the UKIP candidate that came across as being clued up.
I'm thinking Labour and Cons. both picked their candidates to look like they were ordinary people, just plucked from the street.

A bit of a turn around I think.

Oh I think, in the polls, the Lib/Dems are on a par with the Monster Raving Looney party, so they are in good company.

I think that the General Election in 2015 is going to be the most interesting in decades.

I totally agree, there is a LOT of unrest at the moment, people want change, I think UKIP will do very well.

I agree on both points. The latter is most worrying though. They are gaining popularity on the basis of a few unsubstantiated headlines and sound bites. I voted for them in the recent European elections, as a protest vote, but I really don't want them in power.

Have you seen their manifesto? They are completely insane. Britain will be knackered within a year if UKIP get in.

It's not just the potential rise of UKIP, but the decline of the Lib Dems and the potential rise of the SNP in Scotland which makes me wonder just whoever is going to be in the next Coalition Government and what will they demand?

Won't they look silly if their only chance of gaining any power is to get into bed with the tories, because they will do if they have to. They are politicians. That means they'll do whatever they have to do get themselves a share of the action.

They are offering change though and I think that is what people really want. Who else is there? no-one in their right mind would vote for Ed Miliband and people seem disillusioned with David Cameron.

I agree, but in voting for UKIP, I suspect people are jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. UKIP publish hardly any details of their plans or policies, and they few they do publish are clearly aimed at undoing the last half a century or so of developments in the UK. Under UKIP, the kids will all be in grammar schools, which might sound great, until you consider that they wont be focusing on science and technology so much, so although they'll be able to read and write, they wont actually have the skills demanded by modern Britain, which is now service industry focused rather than the manufacturing of half a century ago. The countryside is doomed under UKIP. They want to start mining again on a massive scale, as well as the new and unproven practice of fracking. At least that's as much as I could decipher. I did email them to clarify, but they couldn't be bothered to reply.

While I am personally opposed to being in the EU, I don't think we should isolate ourselves. I get the feeling that UKIP want to withdraw without any sort of plan, and effectively shut the doors, making Britain a barren little weak island nation in the Atlantic. We can leave the EU and keep the trade and the military alliances etc, but that would require much negotiation, whereas UKIP's attitude seems to be that we should pull out then raise 2 fingers at our European allies. Again, I might have got that wrong, but nobody from UKIP seems to be making any effort to clarify any of these points.

But you are right though. We are a bit stuffed any way you look at it. There is nobody in the running that in my opinion is worthy of organising a drinking session in a brewery, let alone running an actual country.

Good evening Shiney that's only because I've been name dropping and mentioned that the I personally knew the President of Essex;):blue thumb:

But not to worry the same party will still be representing these towns after this By Election as it was before :blue thumb:

Just an update and some trivia:smile:

The latest poll shows that Ukip is on 48%, eight points up on the previous poll and the Conservatives on 33%, up two points.

Labour is on 16% - a dramatic drop of nine points; the Liberal Democrats on just 1% - down two points and the Green party on 2% - up 2 points.

The poll of 1,012 people in the constituency, was conducted between October 27 and 28 and follows a series of high-profile visits by the Conservatives to rally support for their candidate Kelly Tolhurst.

It also has worrying findings for Labour, which has been criticised for a lack-lustre campaign

Of those who supported Labour in 2010, 33% say they are intending to vote for Ukip, indicating that it is not just disaffected Conservatives who are being won over to Nigel Farage's party.

For the Conservatives, 41% of those who supported the party in 2010 say they will vote for Mark Reckless.

Of those questioned, 76% opposed plans that could see American companies having a stake in providing NHS services under what is known as Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

There is ominous news for the Liberal Democrats, whose poll rating of just 1% suggests they are likely to be pushed back by the Green party.
