Hi Val and thank you my friend, now lets see that's one vote for A and two votes for B:whistle: I just need a quorum so that I can feel safe in the knowledge that I can arrive at a democratic solution:heehee:

Phew!! That's old Woo. Must be a good site for it to last so long so it deserves a generous dose of TLC doesn't it,

Knowing it's age I'd be inclined to go for 'B'. If once you've pruned back to 'B' the stems are still looking green inside there's the possibility of going back to 'A' with any that look like they could take a further snip. :)

'A' with the reservation that the few younger, strong branches below the line are spared. That's what Ann Bird, the Pres of the RNRS would do!

I'd probably go for 'A', but before I went for it, I'd check to see if there were some good buds...

When I tackled the OH's ancient, neglected climbing rose it was amazing the strong new growth that appeared afterwards from old 12" long stumps. Roses are very resilient:)
