First egg of 2015

Finally the girls are showing signs that Spring is here (for them!)
I always get excited when they come back into lay after their Winter break
Agnus laid her first egg on Thursday and a second on Friday.
Fogherty was showing interest in the nest box yesterday ... but it was probably just wind Mind you, yesterday's weather was dismal to say the least.

My girls have continued to lay through winter but they're usually a bit hit and miss,they're starting to get back in the swing of things now thoughI love it when they come out of the nest box and tell the world and his wife what they've just done

 

Same here Loli, mine kept ticking over right through the winter this year, normally I'd expect to get no eggs for about a month or so around December and early January.

I've been trying to think what I'd done differently this year and I have changed a couple of things since last winter.

I used to feed them half layers pellets and half mixed corn, but last year I changed this to pellets only in the morning and a mixture of both in the evening.

The other change is that no new point-of-lay pullets were introduced last year. I normally get any new pullets in around September/October and there's usually a 'settling in' period for a while after any new introductions, as they work out the new pecking order.
