Sorry but to my mind you shouldn't be going off B roads if you can't reverse in a straight line or be prepared to tuck yourself into the side of the road to let someone through and yes probably scratch your paintwork.Correct me if I'm wrong but do you not have to show you can reverse adaquately to pass a driving test? There is absolutely no need for anybody to use our road other than us and a neighbour. I haven't even moaned on yet:):) at the attitude of drivers thinking there couldn't possibly be something coming in the opposite direction so drive a breakneck speed despite (because of??? and I don't jest) our neighbour running a cat sanctuary and all the fields around are stuffed full of newborn lambs who are escape artists and regularly get onto the road. I'm all for people coming out into the countryside to enjoy it, just respect that some of us live in it.

I think that's why they put a reverse gear into the car so that you can go backwards when needed to:)

Not to mention that a road to a small cove/beach is most likely to be steep and full of zig-zag narrow bends and there just could be someone coming the other way...... I have to keep reminding myself that some of the drivers I have to allow for, only get to enjoy the countryside for a short period every year (but it doesn't always help)

        Indeed!
However, you only have to make one reverse manoeuvre in your driving test ... the rest of the hour is spent going forward and that is possibly where a lot of the problem lies: lack of practise and possibly lack of confidence. And some drivers may find it, increasingly, physically difficult. Saying that though, I've always used my mirrors for reversing - not the swing your arm over the passenger seat and twist your neck/hip style :heehee:

I always use mirrors, some times when going to tight farms you have to but yer arm on the right hand door and look down the side of the lorry when it mm's gap, i do like tight farms, went to one and the farmer said,"you wouldn't get that in here" that was like waving a red flag to a bull, 1 hour later i was in :phew::yahoo: but then there was another hour to get out again :snork:

You sound like my daughter who is a class 1 artic driver. She likes nothing better than to reverse onto a very tight bay in a oner when she has an audience of male drivers who are convinced she A isn't old enough to be driving class 1 vehicles and B is going to wipe out the whole depot!

Must be a professional driver thing..... nothing is quite like the look on the faces of those that say 'that will never fit in there..', and then you make it fit (and make it look easy just to rub it in )

When I was younger, and just setting out in my profession, I had a group of people that went to get on a double decker I was driving, then backed of and had a bit of a conflab whilst other people were getting on, then they got on and sat upstairs - - I thought no more about it.

When I arrived at the other end of the route (having gone through two snug wee housing estates), they got off and wandered away. As I stood outside having a cigarette, one of them walked back to me and said "You know, we are from America, here on holiday and nearly didn't get on your bus when we saw how young you were; buy hey, you really know how to make that big thing fit through small spaces!" Proper compliment that. :dbgrtmb:

in this instance I would stare at the amazing lady driver and say: "wow...I could never do that!" Respect.

I have great sympathy for people who suffer from anxiety attacks. :grphg: That's why I didn't have a go at the driver but just told him that I would drive his car. :blue thumb: To be fair, all the other drivers were very polite as well. I'm not sure that would have been the case down in this part of the country!

At least, up there, they do have plenty of signs warning of narrow roads. Around our way there aren't any signs!!! When we go to a pub for lunch in another village the road between us is winding and single track - with no signs. We frequently meet farm vehicles on the road and, except in one place, I always reverse to a passing place or field gate. :)

I certainly agree with you Shiney and wiseowl. The folk I am talking about (ok I might be wrong on the odd occasion as you can't always tell) are those who feel "why should I reverse?" and "it's a short cut and a public road let the other bu..er reverse". Many a time the ones I have trouble with are the 30 odd yo males. I am a 60 odd yo female. Thought men were meant to be better drivers than women?:)
While I may have got to the bloody minded stage I don't just keep on going like a local farmer who drives an enormous tractor down our road at speed on a few occasions. God help anybody coming the other way. He paniced an elderly lady travelling in the opposite direction so much she swerved into the little burn. I went to her rescue, got the local garage to pull her car out and plied her with tea and sympathy.

Im getting really stressed out and upset about whats happening down the road following last tuesday night

A hate crime has now been committed and EDL seem to be there regularly there are now community police officers patrolling and it was the main story on the local news

This is normally a really quiet area where nothing really happens and there is no tension

Now it feels full of hatred and there is a lot of racial and religious hatred going on especially on the facebook page for the local area

It just really getting me down.

I did a post somewhere in this thread but i cant find it on my phone

Basically there is an old ambulance station at the end of the road and it opened on Tuesday as solihull community hub but the local community didnt know and the first event was a talk from a muslim scholar from Yemen about how to create a masjid

300 muslims turned up to the event and unfortunately the carpark only holds 30-40 cars and the road its on is a small residential road with double yellow lines down it. The road was blocked and traffic was awful. We already have a problem with traffic because we have a small tesco express and a few other shops opposite but only space for 5 cars to park so that causes traffic issues as it is without large events happening with no appropriate carparking facilities

Anyway so rumours spread on the solihull
Community facebook page that it was a mosque and that is when all the horrible comments and hatred started.

It didnt help that there were two websites for it one under Solihull community hub and one under Solihull community hub masjid which further fuelled the rumours and hatred

This week the windows of the centre have been smashed and four pigs heads were left on the doorstep.
