I'm going to clear an area of the garden tomorrow, weather permitting.

Not sure what the original intention of this was but it must have had a lot of work on it once upon a time.... Now I'm not sure if it seves a purpose what does everybody
    think?

Closer shots.... It has lots of new growth, would a clamatus survive if I introduced one? Maybe prettier then and worth keeping or would it get smothered? image.jpg image.jpg

I'm no expert (far from it) but looks like some sort of climbing Ivy to me, and rather lacking in colour. If it was in my garden, it'd be gone

It looks like ornamental ivy has been planted around the remains of a tree stump to give a purpose for retaining it, but if a purpose is now required to retain that ivy maybe a total rethink is required.

There's nothing like the joy of seeing the first flower of the season open and taking in the wonderful perfume that accompanies most roses. They take more work than other plants but they more than pay for that. :)

Because of the weather mine are late this year so I'm still waiting for the first one to open. :doh:I'll be showing it off when it appears, sometime in the next week I think.

I take your points about roses but the work and thorns and if there's no perfume its not earning its keep, now clematis and honeysuckle there are plants worth keeping...

Ah but you can get thornless roses, fragrant and which give blooms from June right up to the first frost..... I've just been to the garden center and very nearly came home with another but had to resist until phase 2 is ready :heehee: if you had have asked me if I liked roses before entering GC the answer would have been NO but definitely converted now, ahhh the perfume as you walk past them :wub2:

Now I'm starting to sound like you @wiseowl :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I take your point but i have a honeysuckle growing through a philadelphus and that is utopia, it grow outside my patio window so i get the full effect and underneath is a sweet box for fragrance a little (or a lot) earlier in the year. I do like roses but (this is where i get shot down) they do seem hard work and not last long enough.
