erm, lets just say, hypothetically, that, erm, I have a friend of a friend who may have cut their grass way too short --- around 40% of the grass now is brown and patchy stalks. Will it recover left to its own devices or is there something I can do help it. Damn - I mean is there something my friend of a friend could do ....?

Tim, tell your friend hypothetically, it's a bit like cutting your hair, you'll have to wait for it to grow again! :heehee:

Seriously though, this time of year you should use a slightly higher cut anyway because heat and dryness slows down growth. Give it a water every couple of days in the evening unless it rains, and then sit back, watch and wait.

Spruce above, beat me with the shorter version! :heehee:

Thanks guys - that's what I figured and I'm getting told by Sheal to leave-it-alone enough now that I'm getting the hang of this lawn stuff! :) Actually, after just 3 days its looking a whole load better.

... however, maybe a small "as high as possible" trim this weekend so it doesn't get too long again?

It looks ready for a cut to me, a medium height setting would probably be ideal depending on what adjustments you have but no short back and sides please. :heehee:
