    :help: :frown:

I've just had something happen to me on here that I never thought would......

I've just had a conversation with someone ( who will remain nameless) about music and they've never heard of Motown or even Diana Ross :frown:

Am I getting too :old: ( PS, I wasn't around when it all began, but I grew up in the 70s and 80s when a lot of the songs were starting to become classics ).

Does anyone else like it and think that the Motown Legacy should live forever :)

Just to say that my favourite record of all time is " I heard it through the grapevine" by Marvin Gaye.

I wouldn't consider myself as all that old (39 and a half, give or take a few days), and I know of Motown and Diana Ross. I am indifferent to Diana Ross, but have to agree that Heard It Through the Grapevine is one of those all time classic tracks.

                  Here you go Anthony! :)

Motown has produced some great music and some great names which we can't fail to appreciate. I've no liking for Diana Ross but she made a big contribution to Motown during it's most popular years.

Not really my scene but it's legacy has thrown up a few gems. Solomon Burke was never a part of Motown but I like his grittier R&B..............

More my era was this Communards cover.................

I love Motown, my favourite genre of music, even though I wasn't around at the time. Proper music, not like the pop stuff which is churned out nowadays.

Interesting that people don't rate Diana Ross - I don't either. Aretha Franklin too - didn't sign for Motown but the same era. Stevie Wonder I love, Marvin Gaye, etc.

All the covers that have been made by various artists trying to be cool - never came close to the originals.

I think the thing with Diana Ross is that she went a little too " pop-py" after she left Motown for RCA.

Nevertheless she made a few classics in her early days such as " Reflections ", Ain't no mountain high enough " and the classic tracks on the " Diana & Marvin " album.

PS.... I might be a little biased here as I've seen her live and.........she kissed me :)
