I saw a post on bookface, which a naive friend of mine has 'liked'.

It shows a photo of what appears to a US soldier standing over what appears to be a dead civilian of middle eastern appearance. The caption says something like 'if you invade another country, your not defending your own own country, you're attacking people who are defending their country from you'.

It's posted by a group claiming to be peaceful veterans in the UK.

    It is most blatantly propaganda.

So I've reported it on bookface, but believe that will have no effect. So what should we, ordinary citizens, do when we see such blatant propaganda as that?

I hate facebum! Why are people so drawn into it?
For one-they don't seem to have any boundaries on what is posted
Secondly- my eldest is convinced that the news on there is true???!
Thirdly- it's a place for idiots to bully, humiliate, be-little any unsuspecting new comer.
I could go on but I think you get the gist, I hate bumface!
( stamps foot! And regrets the day I let my offspring sign up):wallbanging:

I'm not a member but in answer to your question, people could boycott the site in large numbers. I doubt that would happen though as some people can't seem to cope without it. :snork:

Bookface is indeed highly irritating. Trouble is, it' the most convenient way to stay in touch with distant friends.

But all that is sort of irrelevant. The fact remains that bookface has 1 billion users worldwide. What annoys me, and to some extent worries me, is that it is effectively an open channel for anyone. Their report system is totally inadequate. When I hit report on the post in question, I had to choose one of only 4 categories for the reason. I could say it was bullying, or that I was in the photo and I didn't like it, it was 'inappropriate' nudity etc, or its just annoying and shouldn't be on bookface. There was nothing that said, this looks remarkably like propaganda or recruitment to a malevolent cause'. In this day and age, I think there should always bea mechanism to flag such things. Facebook is one of the biggest organisations in the world and has the ability to do such things, and in my opinion it has a moral obligation to do so, even if the law is too spineless to enforce it.

I can remember when facebook was about your friends and what they were doing, eating, going etc. Not political views which I don't give a toss about. Or lots of my friends sharing things I don't care about.

I still use facebook but it is tiresome as I need it for my business, without it I would be struggling more to hook customers

I'm going to have to ask you to excuse my language! I call it f***book! Simply because it has caused so many to rekindle friendships with ex lovers, the amount of problems that site causes for so many people is unbelievable! I refused to go on there for years & years, I also refused to join friend reunited (I also had another name for that similar to my name for Facebook).
About 18 months ago we went to a friends wedding & all the photos were going to be accessed via Facebook so we joined & honestly I've regretted it ever since! I joined in my married name so ONLY people who were my friends NOW could find me! I've never mentioned my maiden name on there! Last year (as some of you know) my fathers daughter found me on there & messaged me she was terminally ill, I'm now I contact with his other two daughters & son but in turn I've had to endure a meeting with him which brought me nothing but unhappiness!
The bitching on the Facebook really irritates me! The competitive my life's better than your really cheeses me off! Then there's the friends who can't stay off the dam thing.....I shall leave it there!
Why am I still on it? Because I do have a lot of my close friends on there & we stay in contact, I see photos of them, their children, my niece, my brothers photos on holiday etc all of which I enjoy seeing, I'm so busy at work etc I kind of keeps me up to date with the news! but having said that I don't go on everyday & most of it unless I'm tagged I don't bother to look at or read it! Ruddy Facebook......worst thing ever!

Ignore the question and talk about facebook?...

I just skim on past them and bite my tongue knowing that they can do it under freedom of speech.

You lot can discuss propaganda as much as you like:)

I was more concerned with what, if anything, we can do to stop the spread of it if we spot it.

On Facebook, I simply ignore it except to report it. There can be the temptation to comment on it and point out all that is wrong with it, but if you do so, all your friends suddenly see it because you've commented on it, this further propagating it.

I discovered what Facetube was like a long time ago, and deactivated my account. If more people did that - instead of making excuses to stay on - then it would eventually cease to exist and the problem would disappear.

How would you get people to do that? If a million people did that, it would represent a 0.1% drop in user base. And how would you get your word out to so many people? Not via Facebook presumably.

And then what if every ordinary person left it. It would still be therefor anyone else to use an open communication medium.
