Did anyone see the 'Inside Aldi' report on the tv? Their employees are struggling to do their job. Unrealistic targets for serving customers at the checkout and throwing goods onto shelves (and damaging them in the process) - no time for chatting with customers. Not to mention - but I will anyway - that they 'code' the sell by dates on their veg - so who knows if its in or out of date. But they are cheap - if you are selective, choose their 'unbranded' goods, buy in 'bulk' and don't take any notice of sell by dates.

I went into Lidl once and walked straight out again - never to return...:rolleyespink:

I agree entirely. You have just accurately described the Asda in Warrington

I don't believe in such a thing as 'the cheapest' supermarket/shop/discounter/etc., it differs depending on the type of products you buy, and will vary more if you shop around and take advantage of offers (real offers, not fake reductions).

That's what I put my emphasis on, we're still eating 39p for 2.5Kg (Electra) best before 29/12/2016 bought from Tescos and got them free using 'overage' from vouchers for other stuff from their ATMs, but will still buy seed spuds and risk having them rot in the ground during a wet spring/early summer, get frosted, or be destroyed by Blight.

When I find sacks of onions at Tescos for 89p and on buy 2 get 1 free, I wonder why I bother to grow them myself, when it seems to be a constant battle against bolting and white rot.

And carrots are a bit of a battle because Pigeons will destroy the first shoots and carrot fly will finish off anything else left unprotected.

@Scrungee I was very surprised at just how much better my Carrots taste than those bought from supermarkets. Friend who is a farmer (don't think they grow carrots tho) told me that farmers have to grow varieties which will withstand being harvested by machine which precludes most of the very tasty crisp types which would break during the harvesting process. You live and learn. Agree about Onions being pretty cheap and not that different to home grown, mine anyway. Still will grow them tho.

Well I shop in Asda at Wigan and Warrington, staff are very helpful and polite . The meat and fish are good quality, Mrs H's family were butchers . And I probably scare the children away
We shop at Asda as its the nearest of the big four too us. I find the prices are OK too , I must be rich and foolish !

My Father in law, sister-in-law and her daughter used to work at Asda in Warrington. A few years ago now though. Last time I was there must be almost 3 years ago. We went upstairs for a bite to eat. I nearly choked on my chips when I heard the member of staff call mushy peas .... "crushed peas" :hate-shocked: :lunapic 130165696578242 5: I ask you: *crushed* peas!!!! :thud:
