If I was in a divorce situation I think I'd avoid the site, I'd rather use the old fashioned, tried and trusted method. It would worry me putting all my details out there on the internet.

Perfectly suitable site for those who can commit to a marriage only a few days, which seem to be the trend nowadays.

Whatever you choose to do, try to keep it as amicable as possible, Zig. Otherwise the only winners will be the lawyers. At least your children are all big ... when there are little ones involved it is very difficult. I didn't have kids with my ex, thank God, but he went on to start a family with wife #2. He then ran off with wife #3, leaving a five year old in the middle of it all. That child is now a stroppy teenager, who doesn't want anything much to do with his dad. How do I know this? Because #3 has been slagging off #2 via Twitter and calling the poor kid a 'brat' and 'the strangest child she's ever met'. If anyone posted this about my kid via the world wide web, I'd be round with a meat cleaver before you could say 'irate'. You never really know people until it all starts to go pear-shaped ....

Good luck to you, Zig. It is not a nice thing to go through.

                  cheers Clare,

Been looking at the CAB & direct gov sites, it seems if its uncontested then we don't need to pay a lawyer. Will look a bit further at that, don't mind paying someone a few bob to make sure its done properly.

Have noticed a couple of deliberate "baits" on FB, which i'm not going to rise to.

If you can work together and exclude the lawyers, that is the ideal situation. Unfortunately people are often persuaded that this is a bad idea because they think they'll somehow get a worse deal if they don't have a legal professional involved, or they won't be able to tie things up properly. Actually, it is possible to spend a fortune on legal assistance only to find that things still aren't tied up properly. And if things escalate to the extent that you have to go to court, you're in completely unknown territory. Frankly, you're dependent on what old codger you get on the day and what kind of a mood he's in. The judge has an astounding amount of autonomy, because he can always end by saying 'if you don't like it, you can appeal.' In other words, if you can manage to argue your case under law (difficult) and have access to limitless funds, you can have another pop at things. You'd be better off shoving your money on a rank outsider in the Grand National. And I've known so many cases where both parties started out wanting to be civilized to one another, but once the legal letters got chucked through letterboxes like hand grenades things degenerated into all-out war. It helps to have as little in the way of tangible assets to argue over as possible!

I have closed my FB account and I don't miss it!

For gods sake agree the terms if at all possible before seeing a lawyer.
My bitch ex-sister in law turned my brothers offer down, so he employed a solicitor, she turned down every offer subsequently and when the final ruling was decreed ended up with less than his first offer! Cost my bros 20 grand to give her less, god knows what it cost her as 40% of her solicitors letters were so mindless that his brief just sent a letter saying "received" and charged him £20!!
