Do any of you have any tips or tricks for itchy, watery eyes?

I know the cause - plain and simple tiredness/exhaustion, however at the moment I have little option but to get on with things; as of the Bank Holiday Monday (25th) I will be off work for a couple of weeks so the batteries will get charged then, but I need to make it there...........

Both my eyes are itchy, watering almost constantly and feel heavy and gritty. The watering of my right eye in particular is driving me up the wall, as it is so bad the skin around the eye is now suffering (I look like I have a bit of a shiner).

Please don't say docs or opticians, as they are both non-starters, simply because I won't have time to go (and I really am not joking), but any hints for relieving eye irritation?

I know exactly what used to work for me, but unfortunately it takes practice, so I can't see it working for you short term.

Through meditation practice, you can put elements of your mind to sleep while keeping other bits awake. Its brilliant. I once slept right through an important lecture at uni but discovered afterwards I'd taken more than a dozen pages of notes, and they matched up with what my mates had written:) It also enables you sleep for literally a few minutes, and while still sitting up and still listening.

The meditation trickery that facilitates this starts with simply emptying your mind of all thought, not the kind of meditation where you meditate 'on' something, and no sitting cross legged chanted 'Om' I promise. People wont even know you're doing it. But unfortunately it takes time and practice, so I'm afraid its not going to help you within the next couple of weeks before your break starts.

Firstly FC try not to rub them,I know it's difficult but if you do have an eye infection it soon spreads from one to the other if you rub them...An eye wash from the chemist should do the trick..I'm sure you're growing Cues aren't you?Nice slice on each eye,lay back and think of 'scotland' and you've cracked it:thumbsup:

          Thanks all :)

I never thought of cucumber - if we have any left, that is (I am the only one in the house that doesn't eat them - even the dog loves cucumber )

I am going to try and do an extra-long hit on Saturday with a view to taking Sunday off, basicaly to sleep, see if that helps.

I'll try and pop in to a chemist tomorrow.

An old trick is to VERY lightly rub them with a lambswool jumper. Works wonders.

I use baby shampoo very very dilute to wash my eyes morning and night with hot water (as hot as you can stand). I find it best to do it in the shower but in a rush I use a flannel, but don't rub or poke - just gently but firmly press and hold onto the eye for a minute. A flannel needs changing/washing every day otherwise I've found I get eye infections to which I'm very susceptible.

This technique was suggested by my GP and an optician. I used to use an off the shelf cleaning wipe/solution but that cost a fortune.

Oh, nearly forgot something the optician told me.

When we get tired, we often forget to blink as much, so our eyes dry out and become itchy and sore. The trick, she told me, is to make a conscious effort to remember to blink a bit more. I tried it, didn't work for me, but might work for some.

The anti histamine seems to have reduced the itchiness today, which in turn has meant that I am not wiping my eyes as often, and that in turn has meant that they are less irritated, so I will keep going with the antihistamine for the next week or so and then hope that the forthcoming rest will sort the rest for me.

Thanks for the tips too, which I will certainly try if things get worse again.
